Elton John's A Big Hit In Morocco

Elton John' s festival show in Morocco went off without a hitch on Wednesd ay night (26May10), despite fierce opposition from hostile Muslims.
The British rocker received a warm welcome from thousands of fans as he took the stage at the week-long Mawazine World Rhythms festival in Rabat after defying members of the popular Islamist PJD party, who urged him t o scrap his plans.
The Islamists insisted the gay star was not welcome in Morocco, but fes tival organisers refused to pull his headlining slot on the bill.
Security was tight as Elton stepped out onstage - and his concert was a big hit with no hint of protest.
The relieved rocker was respectful throughout, toning down his famous f lamboyant stage gear and thanking his fans for their applause.
Closing his three-hour all-hits concert, Elton declared, "God bless Mor occo," before leaving the stage.
Festival bosses claim 40,000 fans attended the show.
