Ozzy Osbourne Tells Of Flight Tragedy

Rock wildman Ozzy Osbourne once had a nasty shock on a trip to the U.S. - a passenger sitting next to him on the plane died after suffering a seve re allergic reaction to his in-flight peanuts.
The former Black Sabbath frontman was travelling to the States when a fellow flier began struggling for breath as he munched on his snack.
The rocker was stunned when he realised the man had died - and he was faced with explaining the tragedy to shocked flight attendants.
In his column for Britain's Sunday Times Magazine, Osbourne writes, "I was on a plane once to America and the bloke next to me began making funny noises while eating his nuts. Next thing, I was sitting next to a corpse.
"The worst thing was having to press the buzzer to call for a flight at tendant, then explain why a bloke who'd been alive a few minutes earlier was suddenly face-down on his tray table. In the end they put a blanket over him and moved me to a seat in first class with champagne."

Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge on Blu-ray October 19, 2010

Two of famed director Baz Luhrmann’s unconventional, poetic and mesmerizing films get the star treatment October 19, when Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment debuts William Shakespeare’s Romeo+Juliet and Moulin Rouge! on Blu-ray Disc.

Flaunting a new high-definition transfer and spectacular picture-in-picture experience, both Blu-ray discs of the award-winning films boast new uncut footage, BD-LIVE: Live Lookup Powered by IMDb®, as well as a host of other never-before-seen material produced by Luhrmann and his creative team at Bazmark. And for first time ever, Moulin Rouge! includes an alternate opening sequence featuring the Cat Stevens hit “Father & Son”.

William Shakespeare’s Romeo+Juliet and Moulin Rouge! Blu-ray Discs will each be available for the suggested retail price of $34.99 U.S. / $37.99 CAN. Pre-book is September 8.

Widely credited with reinventing the modern movie musical, Moulin Rouge! exploded onto screens when it debuted in 2001. Celebrating some of the best-loved popular music of the twentieth century, the film found audiences ready to enjoy the same break-into-song storytelling currently enjoying its latest reincarnation in the popular television series Glee.

Along with a multi-platinum selling soundtrack led by the single “Lady Marmalade,” the film went on to broadly influence fashion, music, design and popular culture, and was nominated for eight Academy Awards® including Best Picture, winning two for Catherine Martin’s production design and costume design.

Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Australia) sizzles in her Oscar®-nominated role as Satine, the seductive courtesan and star of a popular French nightclub that caters to society’s decadent elite. When she unwittingly draws Christian, a struggling writer played by Ewan McGregor (Amelia), into her spell, true love turns to tragedy. Moulin Rouge! offers a kaleidoscopic ride through a world of song, dance, romance and drama that celebrates truth, beauty, freedom and above all things, love.

Inventive, unconventional, controversial, Luhrmann’s Oscar-nominated adaption of William Shakespeare’s Romeo+Juliet finds the star-crossed lovers in the modern world of Verona Beach where Romeo drives a car and Juliet packs a gun. Set to a thumping soundtrack, amidst the threat of gunfire through and the delicate embrace of forbidden love, the audience is invited to drink from an intoxicating cinematic cocktail that takes them on a ride from Romeo and Juliet’s budding love, their first kiss, through to their separation and ultimate demise.
Considered a modern classic, this iconoclastic film adaptation that redefined the timeless tale for a new generation stars a pre-Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio (Shutter Island, Inception) and Claire Danes (The Family Stone, Shopgirl), as the youthful star-crossed lovers. The film went on to achieve box office success and widespread acclaim, a multi-platinum soundtrack album, and won four BAFTA Awards including the David Lean award for best direction and two Berlin Film Festival awards including the Silver Bear for Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance as Romeo.

Luhrmann says:
“As a fan, I’ve seen examples where the technology is so powerful, a much-loved film goes in for a Blu-ray treatment and, somewhat like a friend who has had too much surgery, you no longer recognize them.

“Mindful of the relationship evolved with many fans of these two films, the esteemed digital intermediate colorist Jan Yarbrough, who recently completed color restorations of North by Northwest and The Godfather films, and I sat together day in and day out seeking to maintain the color philosophy forged in the cauldron of shooting, while giving full reign to the power of high-definition technology to deliver a Moulin Rouge and an R+J that audiences will recognize but are nevertheless realized at the highest possible visual quality.
“As a filmmaker you never know whether you will ever have a chance to revisit movies again, and so we have gone about this with the attitude that this could be for the last time.”

Tour Guide Shares Thousands of Stories on Hollywood Legends

After collecting literally hundreds of vintage tales of Hollywood legends over the years, Stephen Schochet not only wrote a book that everyone could enjoy on the glamorous, and not so glamorous, stories of Hollywood icons, but also created audiobooks. As explained in an interview with Reuters, this entrepreneur told two kinds of stories on his tour bus; origin stories – telling how things we take for granted came to be, and funny anecdotes. He not only read a lot of books to find his material, but also tried to meet people who were connected to the famous – like housekeepers – that he could garner some tidbits from! His book is a special blend of biography, history and legends and covers scandalous yarns on some of Hollywood’s greatest characters – from Shirley Temple and Lucille Ball to Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney and Michael Jackson.

Hollywood Stories: Short, Entertaining Anecdotes About the Stars and Legends of the Movies! (Hollywood Publishing) is packed with wild and wonderful short tales on many famous stars, movies and directors – anyone who has been a part of the world’s most fascinating and unpredictable industry!

Schochet is also the author and narrator of two audiobooks. The first is Tales of Hollywood which started as a way to highlight the origins of how famous things in Hollywood began, combined withhumorous tales about the stars - for which he masterfully provided background music and sound effects to add realism. The second project, Fascinating Walt Disney, was a huge hit – telling stories of how Walt created Mickey Mouse, Disneyland, Snow White and all his endearing characters, causing the host of one radio show to dub Schochet ‘The best storyteller about Hollywood we have ever heard.’

The author covers the gamut when it comes to situational stories; from the one about a bus full of tourists at Universal Studies who were viewing the famous motel from the movie Psycho and who screamed in terror as a tall man, dressed in drag, carrying a large knife and looking remarkably like Norman Bates, charged the tram with a convincing maniacal expression– only to find out it was actor Jim
Carrey having some fun - to the story of how Walt Disney overprotected his two daughters from the limelight in fear of their being kidnapped, to the point that when one daughter found out from a classmate that her father was THE Walt Disney, she went home and asked for his autograph!

Hollywood Stories truly has something for everyone. It is a thoroughly entertaining book that features a remarkable cast of Hollywood’s legendary characters and icons and is jam-packed with surprising and funny tales with often unpredictable endings. No matter which page the book is opened on, there will be some fascinating part of Hollywood history to be savored!

Sister Smile - The Tragic Tale Of The Singing Nun- New DVD

Back in late 1963, a Belgian nun known only as Soeur Sourire, or Sister Smile, topped America's pop music charts with the relentlessly cheerful tune "Dominique," from an album that sold 1.5 million copies. From the little that is known of the ill-fated nun's life, Roger Deutsch has made the boldly speculative yet persuasive Italian-language film "Suor Sorriso" in which the nun (Ginevra Colonna) emerges as a tormented, unstable woman who abruptly left the convent after her recording triumph before taking her final vows.

Running a shelter for wayward girls, she and another ex-nun (Simona Caparrini) enter a passionate, tumultuous and destructive affair. Colonna's volcanic Deckers craves spiritual redemption as well as the other woman's love but is so beset by demons that she embarks on a flamboyant, drug-fueled downward spiral that ultimately engulfs her lover as well as herself.

"Deutsch's film portrait of a woman's journey into hell, and her tragic death, is harrowing, fascinating, and illuminating. This riveting film, which made the festival rounds when it was first released, deserves wider distribution and a chance to be seen by a broader audience."

Film Threat ****

"Beautifully photographed and full of disturbing surrealism and even more disturbing spirituality (and just a hint of stigmata), Sister Smile features a harrowing lead performance by Ginevra Colonna..."
