The Mac Wire's Top Concert Pick--Robby Krieger & The Les Paul Trio at NYC's Iridium, 10-3-11, 8PM

By Anne M. Raso, The Mac Wire Contributing Editor

If you are a classic rock fan, we don't have to tell you that Robby Krieger is a founding member of The Doors and is featured in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list. RK was a driving force behind the band's success, writing songs like "Light My Fire," "Love Me Two Times," "Touch Me," and "Love Her Madly" and his work for subsequent bands, including the Robby Krieger Fusion Band has shown his grow even further as a musical artist.

The Mac Wire will be out in full force for Robby's show with who The Les Paul Trio on Monday, October 3rd at 8 PM. We checked out this exact same show last year at this time and it was supercool to check out Robby playing on Les Paul classics like "How High The Moon."

You have a lot of chanced to catch Robby at the Iridium right now since tonight (9-30) he starts his five-day stint there (the first three nights are just with the Robby Krieger Fusion Band but you can bet that a couple of unannounced musical guests will be sitting in). Of course, you get to hear a lot of the ace axeman's work from The Doors in extended versions, and the sound of his Gibson SG is a rock and roll legend in itself.

Tickets can be purchased at the Iridium door, but we suggest buying them ahead of time at and arriving early (6:30 or 7) for a good table. The club, located at 1650 Broadway (at 51st Street in NYC) is intimate, so all tables are good, but we admit that we like to be right up against the stage so we can shout out song requests after we've kicked back a few cocktails! Also be sure to "like" the Iridium's official FB page:

Ashton Kutcher Still Wearing His Wedding Ring

The couple has been dogged by infidelity rumours and stories suggesting its union is under threat ever since Kutcher and Moore spent their sixth wedding anniversary apart last weekend (Sept. 24).

A series of cryptic tweets sent by Moore, who refused to talk about her husband on the red carpet at a premiere in New York earlier this week (Sept. 26), only served the fuel the speculation. She was also a no-show at a film premiere in Hollywood on Tuesday (Sept. 27).

But Kutcher fired back with tweets of his own on Thursday (29Sep11), directing fans to Public Enemy's Don't Believe The Hype on his playlist and then writing, "When you ASSUME to know that which you know nothing of you make an ASS out of U and ME."

And he also gave fans a visual sign his marriage is still intact during a visit to a Los Angeles motorbike shop - he was photographed leaving the store with two new bike helmets and he was wearing his wedding ring.

Simon Cowell Denies Calling Beyonce, Lady Gaga 'Boring'

Simon Cowell is conducting damage control following some insulting statements he allegedly made recently. The always outspoken "X Factor"judge reportedly said that Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and even Beyoncé lack the full-scale X factor that he's looking for on his Fox reality show.

So, what got Cowell into so much hot water? "If you only ever heard Lady Gaga, she's the most boring singer in the world," he reportedly told The Mirror. "You've got to see her — you need TV. Same with Beyoncé. Or Katy Perry. We're all about image. You have to have that X factor."

Well, he is now going on the record to let everyone know they've got it all wrong. "This was completely misreported. It's the complete opposite, in fact," Cowell's rep told "Simon is a massive fan of both [Gaga and Beyoncé] and he always refers to them as amongst the artists he most admires. He thinks they are two of the most interesting, talented and relevant artists today."

The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas! In Theaters One Night Only On 10-18! Don't Miss It!

By Anne Raso, The Mac Wire Contributing Editor

We here at The Mac Wire just got the press release  from the publicist for a must-see Rolling Stones vintage concert, The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas and now we're very psyched to check out the film. (By the way, this will be out on DVD and BluRay from Eagle Rock Entertainment on 11-21 in case you can't make it to your local cinema to rock out to The Stones!)

Many classic rock fans argue that Some Girls was the last really good Stones album--and also say that the Some Girls Tour was their last really good tour. So read on and be there or the rest of us die-hard Stones fans will "miss you," LOL.

“It simply doesn’t get any bigger than bringing The Rolling Stones to music fans across the country,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of NCM Fathom. “Well-preserved for more than 33 years, audiences will be spellbound by this incredibly rare concert footage as it flawlessly captures the band during one of its most musically riveting periods.”

Here is a condensed version of the press release (which includes where film is being shown and how to get tics):

Multi-platinum rock `n roll band The Rolling Stones will transport their  fans back to the summer of 1978 in The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas—a one-night, in-theater concert event on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. (local time). Unveiled for the first time in more than 30 years, this rare, never-before-seen concert was captured live in Fort Worth, Texas on July 18, 1978 and features an exclusive 20-minute interview with Mick Jagger, filmed in August 2011 as he reflects on the fabled 1978 U.S. tour.

The tour footage has been digitally remastered in HD with Cinema Surround Sound, and has never been released via broadcast, cable television or DVD before.

“Fort Worth was an amazing night in a blistering hot July,” says Mick Jagger in the film's interview footage. “Watching it now, the band was really intense and focused, but we were also having a blast with the fans who were really getting into the show and the new tracks from Some Girls. I think our fans will love the chance to see this concert movie for the first time on the big screen.”

Presented by NCM Fathom, More2Screen and Eagle Rock, tickets for The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas are available at participating theater box offices and online at For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

The New Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett Music Video "The Lady is a Tramp" Debuts Monday

Tony Bennett just scored his first #1 album with Duets II, and now the legend is ready to drop another video from the collabo project.

On Monday, his video for "The Lady Is a Tramp" — with a blue-haired Lady Gaga by his side — will hit the Web. On the track, Gaga gets a little feisty with the 85-year-old. "I hate California, it's crowded and damp," the New York-native Gaga sings, before Bennett chimes in giggling, "That's why the lady is a tramp."

"My favorite is that Lady Gaga," Bennett gushed to MTV News at the Video Music Awards, where Gaga spent the night in character as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone. "She's the biggest. I'll tell you, I never met anyone with more talent than that lady."

Prince William and Kate Middleton at a Children’s Hospital Opening

Photo: Splash News
Prince William and Kate Middleton arrive to the opening of the new Oak Centre for Children and Young People at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, Surrey, UK on September 29, 2011.

There’s no royal bundle of joy just yet for newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton, though that’s not stopping them from taking care of other kids around the United Kingdom.
The royal couple gave some major support to The Royal Marsden Hospital at Belmont, Sutton on Thursday, as they attended the opening of the new Oak Centre for Children and Young People in London. Duchess Catherine looked elegant and stylish (when is she not?) in a three-quarter sleeved white dress and a pair of nude heels, while the Prince wore what is essentially his signature outfit: Royal blue suit with a red-hued tie.

Elisabetta Canalis Booted From Dancing With The Stars

Dancing with the Star said goodbye to another contestant Tuesday night and the unlucky star turned out to be Italian TV personality Elisabetta Canalis. Canalis found herself in the bottom three with Chaz Bono and David Arquette. She earned 21 points for her quickstep Monday night while Arquette and Bono landed at the bottom of the scoreboard with 18 and 17 points respectively.
Canalis’ pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy said he realized it came down to a lack of fan base for Canalis, who is best known in the US as the ex-girlfriend of George Clooney. “There were huge challenges for her. We're a proud nation. We're a welcoming nation, but [Americans] have our own idols and our own fan base. This show is about people who have huge fan bases. We can't compete with that,” he said.
"For me, it was a gift every day staying here. It was a great adventure,” Canalis said. “I want to thank everybody because they made me come here. Thanks to the public and to everybody who voted for us. Now I am really nervous, but thank you anyway. It was a great experience.”
In addition to Bono and Arquette, the remaining contestants are: Ricki Lake, Kristen Cavallari, Rob Kardashian, JR Martinez, Nancy Grace, Chynna Phillips, Hope Solo and Carson Kressley.

Ashton Kutcher And Demi Moore Reportedly Split

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore’s marriage is over, according to Star magazine. Rumors of trouble in the couple’s relationship surfaced after they spent their 6th wedding anniversary – September 24 – apart, and now Star claims the cause of the alleged split is Kutcher’s “serial cheating.”
“It was definitely a long time coming, but they’re finally done for good,” an insider tells the tabloid. “Ashton was a serial cheater, and Demi just couldn’t take it anymore. She didn’t deserve to live that way. It’s a painful time for Demi.”
“Demi’s finally ready to move on after all these years because she’s sick of feeling like she can’t trust Ashton,” a source added.
This is not the first time Kutcher has been accused of cheating. He and Moore battled rumors of infidelity last year. The couple denied the reports on Twitter.
Neither Kutcher, 33, nor Moore, 45, have commented on the latest rumors.

Katy Perry: The One That Got Away

Global pop superstar Katy Perry will release a new single, “The One That Got Away,” from her Grammy-nominated No. 1 album Teenage Dream, to radio today.

"I'm so pleased to select 'The One That Got Away' as my 6th single because this song shows a very different side of me that I haven't shown with my past singles on this record. I think that everyone can relate to this song. I wrote this song about when you promise someone forever, but you end up not being able to follow through. It's a bittersweet story - hopefully, the listener learns from hearing it and never has to say they had 'The One’ get away” states Katy.

“The One That Got Away” is the sixth single to be released from Teenage Dream. The album’s previous five singles — “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” — all peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart as well as on the Hot 100 chart. Katy is only the second artist, and the first female, to notch five No. 1’s in the Hot 100’s 53-year history.

Pop Icon Gloria Estefan Releases Her Newest Album, Miss Little Havana

Lady Gaga And Cher Single 'The Greatest Thing'

Just in case you missed it....This summer Lady Gaga confirmed her duet with Cher on Twitter, and hinted at the title of their new song.
"Who knew a year ago when I was crying in her arms after she gave me an award, that today we would record a duet," Gaga tweeted.
 "@Cher You are The Greatest."
The single will be called 'The Greatest Thing' and it's a track Lady Gaga recorded with hit producer Red One a few years ago but never released.
When Red One was invited to work with Cher he played her the song and she "loved it".
"I cut the vocals with Cher first, and I was in Madrid and got a text from Gaga saying, 'I'm thinking about jumping on the song in the remix'," Red One told Digital Spy.
"I was like, 'No, you should jump on the original! Make it a duet.' She said, 'Oh yes, OK, absolutely,' and then I spoke to Cher, and it became a party."
"Everybody loved it. Gaga on it, Cher, two big icons, (they are) part of music history. So it happened. I'm very happy to be a part of this."
The new music from Lady Gaga and Cher is expected to premiere soon as Cher said recently 'The Greatest Thing; would be revealed in September.

The Zombies Invade The City Winery (And Even Get A Wine Named After Them)!

By Anne M. Raso, Mac Wire Contributing Editor

We could be cheesy and say that it's "the time of the season" for The Zombies but it's actually more accurate to say it's "the time of the New Millennium" if you think about it since they are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a tour that includes original members Colin Blunstone (lead vocals) and Rod Argent (keyboard and vocals). The lineup is rounded out by Argent's older cousin Jim Rodford on bass (who played on several monumental Kinks albums, by the way), his son Steve Rodford on drums and Tom Toomey on guitar. At last night's mesmerizing performance at the City Winery in New York City's trendy Tribeca neighborhood, the guys received the ultimate tribute when a special batch of Sauvignon Blanc was made in their name (yes, right on the premises in the wine cellars downstairs)!

But what everyone came for was the music (although City Winery is a favorite "vinomaniac" hang in Manhattan and some singles come to "mingle"). It was touching how lead singer Colin Blunstone--famous for his mysterious, somewhat whispery vocals on such original British invasion hits as "She's Not There," "Tell Her No" and "Time Of The Season" which all reached the Top Ten Stateside circa 1964 to 1968--spoke about his first trip across the pond back in 1964. The Zombies came here to do one of those giant package shows at the Brooklyn Fox that Murray The K used to promote and MC, and CB actually asked members of the audience who were at any of those shows to raise their hands. Indeed, a few hands were raised!

Not only did the band do heart-warming renditions of the five most popular tracks off their legendary Odessey And Oracle album (which holds the #80 spot on the Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums Of All Time list), but they did a few tracks off their wonderful new Breathe Out, Breathe In CD, and sprinkled the hits hear and there. In case you are curious, "She's Not There" is saved for the last spot in Zombies shows...and last night's encore was "God Gave Rock And Roll To You." We wrongly always assumed that was a KISS original, but it was actually a European hit for Argent (Rod Argent's OTHER famous band) back in 1973 and only heated up in Philly despite it being such a great rock anthem. KISS rocked it up a bit and had a hit with it in the 80s, as you probably know.

Rod Argent, who, in our opinion, has one of the most unique keyboard styles in all of classic rock, also got the audience rocking along for "Hold Your Head Up"--but since this was the City Winery, everyone held their wine glasses up! Another little known hit Stateside was Colin Blunstone's version of "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" (originally a Motown hit for Jimmy Ruffin) and his performance of this soul classic was definitely a highlight of the Zombies set. (CB's version, performed as a duet with Dave Stewart--not the guy from the Eurythmics--was a huge hit in Europe back in 1980.)

Photo info: Anne Raso of The Mac Wire with Colin Blunstone by Gail Worley, concert and wine photos by Anne Raso.
We here at The Mac Wire strongly recommend picking up Breathe Out, Breathe In since it brings all the classic elements of the Zombies including Colin's breathy vocals and Rod's punchy keyboards in with some timeless material that is reminiscent of the original British Invasion from which the band came...but also throws in some modern elements and production which add a lot of spice to the whole musical package.

Happy 50th to The Zombies--so happy they are doing a tour, have a new disc out and seem to have endless energy. We were lucky enough to meet them after the show, get the inside scoop on the tour as well as talk to Rod Argent about "God Gave Rock And Roll To You." He probably hears from dozens a fans a night that they thought it was a KISS song, but he told us the whole story about how it seemed to only "hit" in certain musical communities around the world but not with the mainstream American public. We'll catch up with you again next time you are in the Big Apple, lads!

'Breaking Dawn' Single Drops: Bruno Mars' 'It Will Rain'

The indie angst of past "Twilight" scores has given way to doo-wop sadness on "It Will Rain," the lead single Bruno Mars dropped Tuesday (September 27). The full "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" soundtrack will hit the streets November 8.

In a previous interview, Mars promised "It Will Rain" would be "dark," and he didn't lie.The track — co-written and co-produced by Mars' team, the Smeezingtons — is signature Mars: Sweeping and romantic, it focuses on the power of true love and the emotional pain of heartbreak. The pain of the track is reminiscent of his smash "Grenade."

" 'Cause there'll be no more sunlight, if I lose you, baby," he sings on the emotional chorus. "There'll be no clear skies, if I lose you, baby/ Just let the clouds, my eyes will do the same if you walk away/ Every day, it will rain."

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" opens in theaters November 18. "After seeing the movie, I thought that it would be a perfect fit," Mars said of the song. "The 'Twilight' movies for me [are] a love story. But it's a dark love story," he added. "And I think the best way to describe the song is: It's the darker side of love. I think that pretty much sums it up."

Nancy Grace wants to make one thing clear – she did not have a “nip slip” or a wardrobe malfunction during her performance Monday night on Dancing With the Stars. The HLN host was dancing a quickstep when her chest appeared to spill out of her brown costume. ABC covered up the incident with a quick cut to the audience.
Grace tells Us Weekly that there was no nip slip, just some “jiggling.”

"We have taken every precaution known to men in this dress right here. I'm talking industrial size precaution. There may have been, as Tristan said, a little bit of jiggling but there was absolutely not a wardrobe malfunction."

Robert Pattinson Goes To Punch Paparazzi

It has been reported that Twilight star Robert Pattinson was close to throwing a punch at a camera-man yesterday when photographed coming out of a meeting at the ICM Agency in Los Angeles.

The photographer, who was stood nearby taking a few shots of the star, was surprised to see the actor get aggressive on sight of his camera.

"Rob already seemed to be in a bad mood as he was leaving ICM and when he saw me, he just snapped," the photographer told X17.

It would seem that Robert's friend is the one to thank, as he sucessfully managed to calm the Twilight star.

"I was just standing there, taking his picture, not saying anything, not getting too close and he just went off. He clenched his fist and got ready to hit me, but his friend told him to stop and calmed him down," the photographer added.

Pictures of the actor were taken at the scene, and needless to say he was not looking his happiest. Wearing black trousers and a black t-shirt, Rob  was snapped marching energetically towards the camera with his right fist already clenched, ready to pounce on the photographer. Robert Pattinson was very moody indeed.

Charlie Sheen and Warner Brothers Reach Settlement In $100 Million Lawsuit

Charlie Sheen’s massive lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television and ‘Two and a Half Men’ creator Chuck Lorre has been settled to all parties “mutual satisfaction,” Warner Bros. announced Monday. The studio said the terms of the settlement will remain private.
"Warner Bros. Television, Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen have resolved their dispute to the parties' mutual satisfaction. The pending lawsuit and arbitration will be dismissed as to all parties. The parties have agreed to maintain confidentiality over the terms of the settlement,” the studio said in a statement.
Sheen filed the $100 million lawsuit in March following his firing from Two and a Half Men. He sought compensation for himself and the show’s crew for the eight episodes that were canceled as a result of his departure. "Defendant Chuck Lorre… believes himself to be so wealthy and powerful that he can unilaterally decide to take money away from the dedicated cast and crew of 'Two and a Half Men' in order to serve his own ego and self-interest, and make the star of the Series the scapegoat for Lorre's own conduct,” Sheen claimed in court documents.
Ashton Kutcher was introduced as Sheen’s replacement on the season nine premiere of Two and a Half Men. The episode raked in 27.8 million viewers – the highest viewership ever for an episode of the show.

For all the Lady Gaga and Cher fans out there who fainted at the news that two of pop music's biggest stars have teamed up on a soon-to-be released record, your wait is almost over!

Cher herself confirmed via Twitter back in August that we would hear "The Greatest Thing" sometime in September, and because the month is quickly coming to an end, we should only have a few more days to wait to hear the highly anticipated track.

To hold you over until the release, MTV News recently caught up with RedOne, the producer mastermind behind the soon-to-be hit, to find out how the song came to be and why everyone will love it.

"[Gaga and I] recorded the song a few years ago, and we were always in the studio enjoying that song. It's weird we never did anything with it," he said. "So I remember my management and Cher's management were trying to get us together, and I thought, 'Oh my God, I'd love to meet Cher, just to meet her!' And so I met her, I played her some songs, and I played her 'The Greatest Thing,' and she loved it. She said, 'This is my song,' I said, 'Yes, it's your song.' "

X Factor: Melanie Amaro Steals The Show

The X Factor headed to Miami and Dallas Thursday night for the next set of auditions. An 18-year-old named Melanie Amaro was the highlight of the episode. The college freshman sang Beyonce’s “Listen” and earned a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and LA Reid.
"This is why I do this. People like you inspire me,” Scherzinger said.
Reid called Amaro “truly amazing.” “You have the gift. You have the soul. You have the spirit. You have the swagger. You have the X factor,” he said.
"You got something that I haven't heard in any audition I've been in," Abdul told the teen.
Even Simon was impressed. "When I was asked by a lot of people why I was bringing this show to America it was because I hoped that we were going to find someone like you,” he said.
Amaro was put through to the next round.

Gerard Butler Wants Us To Appreciate His Body

Gerard Butler's new, slimmer physique had everyone turning heads. He was hot with his 300 ab-apalooza, but after losing a ton of weight, Gerard proved he's still got it going on, no matter what body shape he takes on.

While he's still made of muscle, Gerard's new svelte figure had some worrying about his health. Not to worry, people. Like a ton of actors with fluctuating weight, it's for a movie role. Gerard is playing a surfer in an upcoming flick, so he's been hitting the waves every day.

So how does Butler feel about all the media attention over his body? He told

"I don’t care, I've lost weight. They love to get involved in things like that. It would be nice if they appreciated it."

Oh, we do. We definitely do.

"I go through all that work and do it for different roles, and get big for 300 or get heavier for a role, or slim down for a role," Butler told HS at the Machine Gun Preacher movie premiere in Los Angeles. "It'd be nice if they went 'well look, he's committed"

Okay, so we're a little more concerned right now with your hotness, but wait till the movie comes out! I'm sure we'll all be praising your performance.

In the flick, Gerard plays surf mentor Rick "Frosty" Hesson. Butler recently joked about his dedication to his role:

"I ate my last meal in October and I run about 40 miles a day. I'm joking. It's just doing a lot of cardio and extremely watching what I eat. I stopped lifting big weights and I'm doing yoga. It's not hard to be in's hard to be in really good shape."

See, even he knows he's in really good shape.

"But this is how I look," he continued. "I just used to be a lot bigger. But now I'm surfing. I don't know...maybe I'm sick or something!" Over the summer, Gerard was spotted riding his motorcycle down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. And he had some precious cargo in tow—Jessica Biel. Of course, it spurred a ton of dating rumors. He was also linked to Eddie Cibrian's ex-wife and Real Housewife starBrandi Glanville. So what's his relationship status?

"I am single," Gerard tells us.

Brushes hair and sprays mouth with Binaca. Ya don't say?

Jackie Collins Is Back With A "Vengeance"!

Photos Above And Text By MAC WIRE Contributor Anne M. Raso

We were lucky enough to attend Jackie Collins' recent bloggers/press event during New York Fashion Week. She hosted 23 journos and bloggers in the Library of the Hudson Hotel on West 58th Street. She not only "meeted and greeted" with the party guests but she also did a reading from her newest book (which just happens to be her 28th), Goddess Of Vengeance, just published by St. Martin's Press. A special Lucky cocktail was served (that's one of Collins' most famous heroines and the heroine of Goddess Of Vengeance, in case you haven't followed her recently), and it was quite potent--it consisted of Skyy Vodka, Cointreau, Cranberry Juice, Lychee Juice and Champagne and was served in a martini glass)!
Jackie was a pleasure to speak with--she took in a couple of Fashion Week Shows including Venexiana and hung out with her British pal Barry Frost (who also lives in LA and was one of the producers of What's Love Got To Do With It). Barry asked questions of Jackie in the question-and-answer session after her reading just like the rest of us. She got questions ranging from what book she would most like to see made into a feature film to whether she would ever do a reality series (the answers being Poor Little  Bitch Girl and an adamant "no," respectively).  Jackie signed books for all the guests and we all walked home with a bag of Jackie Collin's older titles in paperback and all sorts of fun merchandise (like Lucky logo coffee mugs and note pads).
Next up, the 73-year-old beauty tells us that she will be working on a Lucky-themed cookbook and said she is looking for the ultimate meatball recipe. We suggested that she try Donatella's all-veal meatball the next time she was in town (that's our personal favorite and also the winner of many foodie magazine awards).     Hope to see you in town again soon, Jackie. We love your tales not only about writing your books but about when your husband Oscar owned the famous Ad Lib club in London back in the 60s--a hangout for the Beatles and The Rolling Stones, among other rock luminaries! Be sure to check out to keep up with this literary luminary who has been on top of the woman's publishing field since 1968!

"Monkeeing Around" With Micky Dolenz At Planet Hollywood

A Mac Wire Exclusive!
Micky Dolenz with NY radio personality Jim Kerr (who actually introduced Micky to his lovely wife Donna Quinter Dolenz).
Photos And Text By Contributing Editor Anne M. Raso

We were lucky enough to meet up with Micky Dolenz  at his presentation of a rare personal Monkees script from 1967 for the really cool episode guest-starring Frank Zappa! New York deejay Jim Kerr--who happened to introduce Micky to his present wife, the lovely Donna Quinter Dolenz--presented Micky on the stage at Planet Hollywood, Times Square while numerous shutterbugs from the major photo agencies and just plain ol' fans shot away. Micky told us he wanted to give away a script that was appropriate for New York, and the director of that particular episode had also done some great Broadway plays, so he felt that it was the appropriate choice. Of course, Micky put his John Hancock ont he script before turning it over to Planet Hollywood pre rep, Ayana Brown. We got to chance to talk to Donna (who was standing behind us) before the Mick came out and we detected a New York accent there. She told us she is a Philly native but that she lived in New York City for 25 years—hus the slight accent. (She and the former Monkee now live in Malibu, CA, together but visit New York City often--on Tuesday night, they took in the play Priscilla Of The Desert, which both of them loved and Micky later told us he was in town because he is being courted for a couple of Broadway plays, which is really his thing these days!)

Micky sat down with us after the script presentation and we caught up with him on several things going on in his life. We had to tell him that we not only loved the recent Monkees Reunion Tour show at Coney Island in August (including not only the performance but all the lovely memorabilia images projected onto the scene behind the band), his Royal Caribbean press trip appearance a few years ago where he wowed the crowd with his sister Coco on keyboards next to him, and the script presentation, but we had been hearing about the critical acclaim he had recently received in Hairspray on London's West End. When we asked if he would ever go back and take on the Edna Turnblatt role, he responded with a chuckle, "They approached me but I am still a 'skinny kid' and I am not quite ready to put on the fat suit just yet!" Micky says that his Broadway dream role would be as the lead in The Music Man (how perfect would he be for that?) and we hope to see him take that role on someday. Micky as always considered the Monkee with the best voice and the one who got the song that the producers couldn't figure out who to give to for lead vocals, so we know he could pull off a strenuous role like that with flying colors.

We asked The Mick what his take was on You Tube and all the Monkees' clips ending up there with people getting to watch them for free. He told us, "I have never watched YouTube and I think that it's not a situation that can be controlled at this point." He is quick to point out that back in the day there was a shoe schooling process artists went through that is now not present in the Wild West of artists breaking through on the internet. Still, he tells us he is a fan of today's talent shows and reminds us that his daughter Aimee one the acting competition on Star Search back in the day. "Everyone loves a talent show--back in the old days you just had the Ted Mack Amateur Hour but I think people love America's Got Talent and American Idol just because it's just great to see real people compete...and it's not necessarily the winners who go on to the greatest success."
We look forward to seeing Micky in his newest Broadway role (whatever that may be) and still regret that we did not get to see him on Broadway in Aida (where he got massive critical acclaim). There is a DVD reissue of all the Monkees episodes that features Monkees interviews as bonus features we highly recommend (Micky told us new footage was not added for new version). It is actually TWO DVDS simply called The Monkees Season 1 and Season 2, and is available from Eagle Rock Entertainment. We posted the official press release about it about a week ago here on, so be sure to check that out or go to for more info. Each set retails for $39.98 each--a steep price but worth it for the bonus features alone. Next up we'd like to see all the Monkees product commercials (including ones for Kellogg's Cereal and yardley of London, two Monkees sponsors) put together into a DVD release, but Micky says that is not in the works at the present time. Til then, we'll keep dreaming about that--and regretting that we didn't save those old Kellogg's cereal boxes with the "cut out" Monkees 45 RPM records on the back!
(Editor's note: A special shout out to our new friend Brad Waddell, webmaster of for joining us at the festivities at Planet Hollywood yesterday!)

Lady Gaga Calls For Meeting With Obama After Bullied Teen's Suicide

Lady Gaga was so shaken with the news about the death of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer this weekend that she has called for President Obama to enact laws making bullying a hate crime.

Rodemeyer, who had posted an "It Gets Better" video in May about his long struggle with bullying at school, took his life on Sunday after what his parents said was years of taunting over his sexuality. In his video, Rodemeyer cited Gaga as an inspiration, saying, "She makes me so happy. She lets me know that I was born this way."

In his video, Rodemeyer cited Gaga as an inspiration, saying, "She makes me so happy. She lets me know that I was born this way. And that's my advice to you from her: You were born this way. All you have to do is hold your head up and you'll go far." The teen seems on the verge of tears when discussing Gaga's message and promising to keep on going despite the hate.  Read more »

The X Factor Premiere Recap: Paula Nearly Vomits Over Performance

Two years after leaving American Idol, Simon Cowell returned to reality TV Wednesday night with his new show The X Factor. Ex Idol judge Paula Abdul, singer Cheryl Cole, and music producer and songwriter LA Reid joined Cowell at the judge’s table for the first round of auditions.
A 13-year-old girl named Rachel was the first contestant to hit the X Factor stage. She wowed judges with a rendition of Duffy’s ‘Mercy’ and was put through to the next round. Rachel told judges that she plans to buy her family of 6 a new house if she wins the $5 million prize.
Judges were left in awe again following the performance of Aretha Franklin’s ‘Natural Woman’ by a 42-year-old single mom named Stacy. Stacy was put through to the next round.
Another hit of the night was a recovering drug addict named Chris. Chris, who had just 70 days sober at the time of his performance, knocked ‘Young Homey’ out of the park. Judges put him through.
The worst audition of the night was 43-year-old blogger Geo Godley. Godley took the stage in a silver foil outfit, but he didn’t keep it on for long. While singing his own song titled ‘I’m a Stud,’ Godley dropped his pants. The sight caused Paula leave the judge’s table to nearly vomit.
