Josh Groban Announces Tour Dates and Ticket On-Sale Dates for His 2011 "Straight To You" World Tour

On Valentine's Day, Josh Groban thrilled fans by announcing the launch of his 2011 World Tour on NBC's The Today Show. Now, the multi-platinum recording artist has announced the North American tour dates and ticket on-sale dates for the "Straight To You" Tour, which visits cities across the U.S. and Canada beginning May 12th in New Orleans. In addition to the three dates announced previously (Dallas, Kansas City, MO, and Moline, IL), confirmed dates are listed below, along with ticket on-sale dates. More upcoming dates will be announced soon. For further information, please visit www.joshgroban.com. This is Groban's first full-scale global arena tour since 2007, when the internationally renowned singer and songwriter hit the road for his hugely successful, sold-out 81-city Awake World Tour.

The "Straight To You" Tour will bring the feel of a theater experience to an arena setting through stage design, lighting, and projection, as well as through the spontaneity and interactivity Groban delighted his fans with during last year's "Before We Begin" shows, in which he solicited feedback from the audience on which songs should be included in the set-list. As a result, for the "Straight To You" shows, Groban will continue to interact with audiences and perform favorites from his best-selling albums, including his self-titled debut, Closer, and Awake, as well as songs from Illuminations.

Released by 143/Reprise Records on November 15th, Illuminations debuted at No. 4 on Billboard's Top 200 chart (Groban's fourth consecutive Top 5 chart bow), selling 191,337 units in its first week. Entertainment Weekly declared that "Illuminations might be Groban's handsomest effort yet." USA Today raved: "Illuminations yields glowing music. Sturdy, deeply personal statements, brimming with poignancy." The New York Times also praised the album, saying it "showcases Mr. Groban's songwriting" and "reflects the conviction that gallantry can also be pensive and uncertain."

Groban recently performed the National Anthem at the 60th Annual NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles. He will be a guest-host on Live with Regis & Kelly on March 4th.

Oscar Night Ruled By 'The King's Speech'

"The King's Speech" entered the biggest night in Hollywood as the clear front-runner to win top honors and did not stumble at the 83rd Academy Awards, nabbing four wins out of 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Colin Firth and Best Director for Tom Hooper.

"Inception" ended up roping in four wins as well, one better than "The Social Network," which lost out in all the major categories after beginning awards season as a potential dominant Oscar presence yet losing momentum over the past month. The evening, in fact, unfolded without a single upset in the major categories, from Melissa Leo's ("The Fighter") early Supporting Actress win to the Best Picture triumph for "King's Speech."

Firth could have begun penning his Best Actor acceptance speech months ago. When he finally got the chance late in the night, he began, "I have a feeling my career has just peaked" and ended, again self-deprecatingly, "And now, if you'll excuse me, I have some impulses I have to attend to backstage." Read more>>

Bale & Leo Missed Each Other's Oscars Speeches

Oscars protocol prevented The Fighter co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leofrom catching each other's acceptance speeches on Sunday night - both stars were locked out of the Kodak Theatre auditorium.

Bale was refused entry to the theatre as he returned from a bar break to catch Leo's Best Supporting Actress win and then the actress, who played his mum inThe Fighter, couldn't get back to her seat to watch Bale's Best Supporting Actor victory after accepting her award.

Bale missed movie history, when he failed to catch Leo's speech, during which she became the first winner to utter the 'F' word on the Oscars stage.

He says, "I was out in the bar with Dicky (Eklund - the character he plays in the movie) and my wife, thinking that it was like the other awards, where you could just wander on in and then being barred out. I was literally banging on the door with Dicky... and they wouldn't let us in."

And then Leo failed to catch her co-star's win: "I was locked out of the auditorium when he was getting his award."

Charlie Sheen Challenges TV Writer In Hard-hitting Interview

Troubled Charlie Sheen used a U.S. TV interview recorded over the weekend (26-27Feb11) to challenge the creator of his suspended show Two And A Half Men as their war of words turned really nasty.

In the Today Show interview, which aired in America on Monday, the actor was asked what he'd like to say to writer Chuck Lorre, who has been battling Sheen publicly for weeks.

Sheen promptly produced a series of question cards, stating, "It's funny you'd ask; I have the questions right here."

He went on to reel off questions directly into the camera, asking Lorre why he had cancelled the remainder of the sitcom series in the wake of Sheen's rehab and health woes.

He accused Lorre of laziness, suggesting the writer had used Sheen's problems to shut down the show - because he had no new episodes written.

The actor's most pertinent question: "When you were told that the crew would suffer gravely as a result of your dictatorial laziness would you please explain what you meant by your statement, 'They are not my problem'.

"I'm sure there's, like, 120-something people that would love to hear the answer to that."

Silver Screen Pin-up Jane Russell Dead At 89

Movie icon Jane Russell has died at the age of 89.

The actress passed away from respiratory problems in her Santa Maria, California home on Monday.

The silver screen sex symbol became an overnight sensation in 1943 when she starred in The Outlaw, and went on to play Calamity Jane opposite Bob Hope inThe Paleface. Her most famous role was perhaps opposite Marilyn Monroe in 1953's Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Russell was also the number one pin-up girl of U.S. troops stationed overseas during World War Two, and her curvy figure earned her the role of an early spokesmodel for Playtex bras.

A vocal advocate of adoption, she also founded the Women's Adoption International Fund.

A service will be held to honour Russell at Pacific Christian Church in Santa Maria on 23 March.

Colin Firth Not Happy With Curse-free King's Speech

Oscars champion Colin Firth is baffled by American film bosses' plans to release a curse-free version of The King's Speech - because he doesn't know any viewer who has been offended by the movie's colourful script.

In the film, which won the British star the Best Actor Academy Award at Sunday's ceremony, Firth's stuttering monarch George VI is seen learning to overcome his speech issues by pronouncing rude words.

Officials at the Motion Picture Association of America's ratings board recently gave producers Bob and Harvey Weinstein permission to release a new family-friendly version alongside the existing R-rated version in cinemas at the same time.

But Firth has slammed the move - insisting the film should not be changed as the swear words aren't used in a "vicious" way.

He tells the Associated Press, "I don't take this stuff lightly, but in the context of this film, it could not be more edifying, more appropriate. It's not vicious, it's not an insult or it's not in any of the contexts which might offend people.

"Really, it's about a man who's trying to free himself through the use of certain words. I still haven't met the person who would object, so I think the film should stand as it is."

Zsa Zsa Gabor's House Broken Into: Bat Pursuit, Paintings Lifted

Zsa Zsa Gabor's financial woes have worsened after her California mansion was targeted by burglars in the early hours of Sunday (Feb 27).

The ailing actress' husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, claims he was awoken by a loud sound in the middle of the night and found two men ransacking their sprawling Bel Air home.
He tells TMZ.com he attempted to chase the intruders out with a baseball bat, but fell and hurt his hip as they made their escape.

According to Von Anhalt, the burglars got as far as the living room and he believes they made off with several of the couple's prized possessions, including paintings, a laptop, a camera and some statues.
Police were called to the scene to investigate the break-in.

The incident comes at a difficult time for the couple - Gabor, 94, has suffered a number of health problems in recent months and recently spent time in hospital to treat an infection in her amputated leg, while von Anhalt has been forced to put their home on the market in a bid to help pay her spiralling medical bills.

Anne Hathaway: 'Oscars will be respectful to Hollywood stars'

Oscars co-host Anne Hathaway has no intention of upsetting her peers at the Academy Awards on Sunday (Feb 27), insisting the big show won't be a repeat of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.

Comedian Ricky Gervais sparked controversy with his mean-spirited humor at the Globes, and reports suggest he has submitted gags for Hathaway and sidekick James Franco at the Oscars.

But the actress has assured film fans and stars alike she won't be making anyone feel uncomfortable on Sunday night (27Feb11).

She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "If you're looking for someone to call people out, we're not your hosts. I think that humor is really difficult to pull off, and I'm not particularly adept at it.

"I am the youngest host in history, and I have no business being cynical or calling anyone out. I certainly haven't earned the right to do that."

Charlie Sheen Sits Down For First TV Chat Since Show Scandal

Charlie Sheen has sat down for his first television interview since producers pulled his hit sitcom Two And A Half Men following his public rant against writerChuck Lorre.

The actor's private and professional life has headed into meltdown since he was hospitalised following a wild night of partying with prostitutes in January.
Production on the show was halted as Sheen began a rehab course at his Los Angeles home. However, he blamed TV bosses for placing the cast and crew on a "forced hiatus" and viciously lashed out against the comedy's writer Lorre through the press, calling him a "clown" and a "worm".

The rant led CBS producers to pull Two and a Half Men from TV schedules for the foreseeable future, and now Sheen has given a candid interview to rival network ABC to give his side of the story.

The chat with reporter Andrea Canning for U.S. news show 20/20 will be an hour-long special which will air on Tuesday. Previews of the interview will also be aired on Good Morning America.

Charlie Sheen 'Shopping Tell-all Tome For $10 Million'

Troubled actor Charlie Sheen has explosive plans to make money now Two and a Half Men  has been pulled - he's reportedly hunting for a $10 million (Ă‚£6.2 million) deal to release his memoirs.

The star's personal and professional life has been crumbling in recent weeks after he was hospitalised following a wild party with hookers.

He started a rehab stint at his Los Angeles home, but couldn't stay out of trouble - he viciously lashed out at Two and a Half Men writer Chuck Lorre, prompting producers to scrap the sitcom for the rest of the season.

And according to TMZ.com, Sheen has revealed he wants to lift the lid on his eight years on the show in an explosive book - titled When The Laughter Stopped.

He reportedly tells the website he will reveal all about behind-the-scenes events - and wants negotiations with publishers to start at $10 million.

Lady Gaga To Become Godmother to Elton John's Son

David Furnish has hinted that Lady Gaga may be the godmother to Zachary, his son with partner Elton John.

When asked in an interview, "Correct me if I'm wrong but Lady Gaga has been named Zachary's godmother. What led you to choose her?" Furnish replies, "We haven't publicly confirmed that yet but your sources are very good! I prefer not to comment on it because we are going to make a statement about godparents later on."

In other words, it's not a confirmation but it's certainly not a denial.

In the interview with Macleans, a Canadian magazine, Furnish talks about how Canadians and Americans view sexuality and equal rights differently.

Furnish, a Canadian, says, "I do feel Canada is much more progressive and more accepting on all sorts of levels relating to same-sex couples and families."

He says that Lady Gaga embodies an attitude that he'd like around his family, telling Maclean's, "She's" all about inclusiveness and tolerance. She believes that you can be whoever you want to be and that we don't have to live in a world of conformity and that we can all [benefit] from individuality. That's the best message in the world. The freedom to be who you are, do what you want and love who you want to love."

Barbara Fisher, Senior Vice President, Original Programming, Hallmark Channels, said, “I feel fortunate to have such a wonderful relationship with Linda Yellen, one of the best filmmakers and storytellers in television, and to have the opportunity to collaborate with her in bringing the romantic love story of William and Kate to Hallmark Channel.

“The love story of Prince William and Kate Middleton, which will culminate April 29, 2011 in the biggest royal wedding since Charles and Diana, chronicles the pair as young students at St. Andrews, William’s Army training at Sandhurst Military Academy, their break-up, reunification, engagement and planning of royal nuptials, and advice from William’s grandmother, the Queen.

“While biographical, the film is a love story with an inside look at the nuances of a modern monarchy, and Hallmark Channel is thrilled to bring ‘William and Kate: A Royal Love Story’ to television.
Nearly 30 years ago, 750 million people worldwide watched as beautiful Lady Diana Spencer married Charles Windsor, the future King of England, making the wedding the most watched program ever broadcast.  The world obsessed over Princess Di – in her short life and even after her death - but the object of the world’s affection was most often her children, Prince William and Prince Harry.  So it will be that amid pomp, circumstance, pageantry and opulence, Prince William will marry the princess of his dreams Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in a ceremony that will surely invite flashbacks to July 29, 1981.

Morrison Hotel Gallery Presents Catch The Beat: The Roots of Punk & Hip Hop

Morrison Hotel Gallery Presents

Catch The Beat: The Roots of Punk & Hip Hop
The Photography of Janette Beckman and David Corio

A joint exhibition of photographs documenting the monumental punk and hip hop movements of the 70s - 90s at The Morrison Hotel Gallery at 313 Bowery in NYC beginning on Friday March 11, 2011 from noon until 7:00PM.

In the late 1970s, Janette Beckman and David Corio were freelancing for rival weekly music papers in London, Melody Maker and New Musical Express respectively. These were the largest circulation music papers and had a huge influence on the music scene with upcoming bands desperate to be featured to further their careers.

In 1982, Janette moved to New York and started to document the emerging hip hop scene. Meanwhile, David was doing the same in the UK. When David moved to New York in 1992, the two became fast friends and realized they had both been documenting the same bands and music scenes.

Londoner Janette Beckman began her career at the dawn of punk rock working for The Face and Melody Maker. She shot bands from The Clash to Boy George as well as three Police album covers. Moving to New York in 1982, Beckman was immediately drawn to the underground Hip Hop scene where she photographed pioneers Afrika Bambaataa, Run DMC, Salt-N-Pepa and Grandmaster Flash among others.

David Corio was born in London in 1960. He began his professional career in 1978 taking photographs of a diverse mix of musicians including Bob Marley, U2, Tom Waits and Public Enemy.

On the joint exhibition Corio and Beckman say, “This exhibition is the first time we have been able to show our Punk and Hip Hop images together, and may be the first time that both music genres have been seriously exhibited alongside each other. Whereas photographs of other musicians from the 1970's to the 1990's are often shown in galleries, it is refreshing to see that there are also exciting images from these two important genres that changed the world of music. We hope this exhibition will help viewers to realize how important Punk and Hip Hop are to the history of music and photography.”
