Elton John Album Artist Wants Pic Back

(RTTNews) - The artist behind Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album cover, Ian Beck, has recently requested the original piece back.

Beck tells Britain's Daily Mail, "I did the cover for Elton's label Rocket Records. Elton loved it and it was a very successful album . . . I think Elton kept the cover work . . . So if you are listening, Elton, I would like the Yellow Brick Road back, please, because I created it."

A spokesman for Sir Elton tells the publication: "I have no idea whether Elton has it, but presumably if he does, he paid for it so it is his; $688 was a hell of a lot of money back then. A bit weird, isn't it, to ask for something back 38 years late

Paul Simon Sympathies Over Spider-Man Musical

Singer/songwriter Paul Simon feels sorry for his fellow rock stars Bono and The Edge over criticism of their Spider-Man musical - he suffered the same agony when his 1998 Broadway play was panned.
The U2 rockers penned the soundtrack for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, but the show has failed to impress critics and was recently put on hiatus following the exit of director Julie Taymor.
It is currently being given a major revamp ahead of an official opening on 14 June (11) - and Simon sympathises with the musicians as his Broadwaymusical The Capeman closed after just three months following a slew of poor reviews.
The Bridge Over Troubled Water hitmaker tells Mojo magazine, "Yeah, The Capeman went through what (the) Spider-Man (musical) is going through now, but in its day The Capeman was the most expensively produced musical to fail, or so they said.
"Back then there was a lot of resentment about people from the rock 'n' roll world coming to Broadway, and I met the full force of that. I didn't choose Broadway people as my collaborators and we didn't court the powers that be. So when we started to stumble and fail, they said, 'Good, you think it's easy to come here and do that?' It's actually pretty hard.' And they were right. Except we didn't have any attitude or sense of entitlement about Broadway."
And Simon has also given a clear hint he's planning to revive his biggest disaster, adding: "The play definitely had its flaws, but it was much harder than they said it was. It will probably be back again in 2012."

And the star is hoping his online knowledge will make him an internet entrepreneur after he invested a large sum into airbnb.com - a site which helps users plan their vacations.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the site is a place "where people can list and book places and things (apartments, sailboats or even the occasional castle) for traveling and vacations."

Manager Confirms Jeff Conaway Death

Jeff Conaway’s manager, Phil Brock, has confirmed the actor died Friday morning. Brock tells People magazine Conaway was taken off life support and passed away at 10:03 a.m. The 60-year-old, who was best known for his roles on Grease and Taxi, had been in a coma since he was found unconscious in his home on May 11. Conaway was suffering from pneumonia and sepsis.

"Jeff was taken off life-support (Thursday) afternoon. His family chose to take him off of life-support based on advice from physicians. They thought for several days that the situation was hopeless,” Brock tells People.

"We loved Jeff as a person. We respect him. We know his personal struggles are all over. He was a kind, gentle soul who loved to perform, from small theater to Broadway,” Brock added.

Conaway began his acting career in the 70s and shot to fame after starring alongside Olivia Newton John and John Travolta in Grease. He went on to star in dozens of films. Conaway’s career was often overshadowed by his addiction to drugs and alcohol. His battle with addiction to cocaine, prescription pain meds and alcohol was chronicled on the first two seasons of Celebrity Rehab. He first sought treatment for substance abuse in the mid-80s.

Lindsay Lohan Begins Jail Sentence

Lindsay Lohan turned herself in to the Lynwood Jail at 5:02 a.m. Thursday morning to begin serving her 4 month sentence for theft charges. Due to overcrowding at the jail, Lohan was fitted with an ankle bracelet and sent home to serve her time on house arrest.
Los Angeles Sheriff’s spokesman Steven Whitmore says the actress left the jail less than an hour after she arrived. "She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all times,” Whitmore told People magazine.
Lohan will likely only serve a fraction of her sentence. The sentence was handed down by a Los Angeles judge earlier this month after Lohan, 24, pleaded no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store. In addition to jail time, the actress is also required to complete an anti-shoplifting program, psychological counseling and 480 hours of community service.
“I hope to be able to fulfill my obligation without any press attention. I think the media spotlight should be on issues such as homelessness and domestic violence instead of on me,” Lohan said in a statement after the sentencing.

Scotty McCreery Will Be 'Smiling For A While' After 'American Idol' Win

Scotty McCreery couldn't be happier, which was obvious when the newly crowned champ of "American Idol" season 10 spent his coronation song hugging anyone within reaching distance. So will the glow of his victory ever wear off? One fellow "Idol" winner doesn't think so.

"Carrie Underwood asked us when we met her, 'Your cheeks hurt yet?' " McCreery laughed to reporters backstage after Wednesday night's (May 25) finale, recalling a conversation with a woman who knows a thing or two about being in his shoes. "I'll be smiling for a good while now, I promise that."

Aside from hobnobbing with the country superstar, McCreery has also gotten tight with the "Idol" judges, who are pretty famous in their own right.

"They're wonderful," he said. "When they first walked out [during the audition], I was intimidated. I was like, 'Oh my goodness, it's Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler [and] Randy Jackson.' But after a few weeks, they were just like friends to us. They were just joking around with us backstage. It's been really great getting to know them. They're really normal people, they really are."

McCreery isn't expecting to nab big names like Underwood and Lopez on his debut album; he looked a little bit closer to home for that, name-dropping fellow finalist Lauren Alaina. "Me and Lauren have talked about it for a while," he teased of a potential duet. "We'll see if that works out. It'd be really cool."

While "Idol" fans know Scotty as a singer, that isn't his only talent. As we learned from his friends and family in Garner, North Carolina, McCreery is a heck of an athlete too. "Sports and music have been my two main things in life," he said. "Baseball is my number one other than music. Hopefully I can get back out on the mound and see if I have anything left in the cannon."

Which reminds us: This "Idol" champ is still in high school. And, unfortunately, he has an AP exam to tackle on Thursday.

"I'm still a kid," he smiled. "I'm still 17. I'm a junior. We'll see. Hopefully I pass it!"

U2 Honor Bob Dylan In Utah

Irish rockers U2 marked Bob Dylan's birthday by paying tribute to the music legend at their gig in Utah on the day he turned 70.

The folk-rocker reached the milestone on Tuesday (May 24) and Bono's band honoured the veteran star during their concert at the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The band played a rarely performed track from their 1998 album Rattle And Hum called Love Rescue Me, which was co-written by Dylan, and afterwards frontman Bono led the crowd in wishing many happy returns to the singer/songwriter.

Later in the show Bono also changed the words of the band's hit Where The Streets Have No Name to include extracts from some of Dylan's most famous tracks, including Times They Are A-Changin' and Blowin' In The Wind.

American Idol Recap: Judges Predict Lauren Alaina Will Win

American Idol’s youngest finalists ever – Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina – faced off for the last time Tuesday night. The night included three rounds. For the first, Lauren and Scotty reprised their favorite past performances. In the second round, the pair’s idols picked songs for them to sing. For the final round, Jimmy Iovine chose original songs, which will be the winner’s first single.

Scotty delivered solid performances in the first two rounds, but fell flat in the third. He kicked off the show with his rendition of “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry. His idol George Strait then selected “Check Yes or No” for round 2. Judges did not completely dislike his third performance. He sang “I Love You This Big,” but Randy Jackson questioned the wisdom of the song choice. Randy thought the performance was mediocre. Jennifer Lopez said he did an “amazing job.”

The judge’s agreed that Lauren Alaina may have secured the win with her third performance of “Like My Mother Does.” Her vocals were strong and the song likely moved fans and audience members. Lauren also delivered in the first two rounds and seemed to improve with each song. She sang Pam Tillis’ “Maybe It Was Memphis” and Carrie Underwood’s “Flat on the Floor.”

See who is crowned the new American Idol on tonight’s season finale.

Chart-Topping Adele Snubs 'Shameful' Endorsement Deals

Chart-topping soul star Adele has vowed never to "sell out" by signing up for "shameful" endorsement deals.

The British singer has sold millions of albums around the world, but she has never used her fame to advertise products, and Adele is convinced she has made the right decision by turning down all the lucrative offers.

She tells Britain's Q magazine, "I think it's shameful when you sell out. It depends what kind of artist you wanna be but I don't want my name anywhere near another brand. I don't wanna be tainted or haunted."

Adele also refuses to sit down for hours of interviews and publicity work, as she doesn't want her fans to grow tired of seeing her on magazine covers, adding, "I don't want to be in everyone's face. I'm a big music fan and I get really p**sed off when it gets like that... and I don't want people to get like that with me."

The singer remains determined to go against her management team's advice by playing shows for smaller audiences, despite being offered a fortune to perform at London's 18,000-capacity O2 arena.

She adds, "We had three nights on hold at The O2 and I was like, 'I won't play a festival. You think I'm gonna play a f**kin' arena? Are you out of your mind?' I'd rather play 12 years at (small venue) the Barfly than one night at The O2! So I've made all those decisions and some people are pretty mortified. They think I'm mad."

Lady Gaga Takes Over DJ Booth at New York Party

Lady Gaga took over a DJ booth at a party in New York over the weekend (May 21-22) and urged the beatmaker to play her music, even though he was given strict instructions not to air the singer's hits.
The pop superstar made an appearance on hit comedy show Saturday Night Live last week  and attended the afterparty in Manhattan.

The DJ at the event, Kevin Gould, had been told not to play Gaga's music as she would be in attendance, but the Poker Face hitmaker cornered him and handed over her iPod MP3 player in a bid to get her songs heard.

Gould, also known as DJ KevG, tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "Because she was the musical guest, I was told not to play her music. But Gaga came up to me and said, 'Can you play my song?' She got out her iPod, which had a new track on it, and asked me to play it. She was a little tipsy so it took us a while to figure out how to play it, so she asked us to play 'Paparazzi' while her manager helped us figure it out. She had a lot of great energy, she was really sweet."

Oprah Winfrey Says Goodbye in Final Show

After 25 years of hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah said goodbye to fans in the series finale that tapped Tuesday afternoon. The only guest for the final show was Oprah herself. She called the episode a “love letter” to her fans.

Wearing a pink dress, Oprah took the stage and talked about her time as the most popular talk show host in the history of TV. She shared clips of her favorite episodes and offered advice to her fans. "I want to leave you with lessons from my life,” she said.

"Each one of you has your own platform. You can help somebody, you can listen, you can forgive. My greatest wish for all of you ... is that you carry whatever you are supposed to be doing and don't waste any more time,” Oprah, 57, said.

"You are responsible for the energy you create for yourself, and the energy you bring to others. Don't wait for somebody else to save you, to complete you, to fix you,” she told her fans.

"You and this show have been the greatest love of my life," Oprah later said as she fought back tears.

Oprah ended her 4,561st episode by saying, "I won't say goodbye, I'll just say until we meet again, to God be the glory."

She then walked off the stage, through the audience and out of the studio.

The Oprah Winfrey Show series finale airs Wednesday, May 25 at 4 p.m. ET.

On May 12th, Josh Groban launched the North American leg of his 2011 "Straight To You" World Tour and is receiving some of the best reviews of his career. With a set designed by the award-winning British multi-media creative and digital agency Knifedge, which has pioneered the use of projection with live theater events, the tour gives fans the feeling of an intimate theater setting through stage design, lighting, and projection, as well as through the spontaneity and interactivity Groban delighted his fans with during last year's "Before We Begin" shows. Groban is not only performing an ever-changing set-list of fan favorites from his best-selling albums and his recent platinum-seller Illuminations, he is also taking questions from the audience via text, which concert-goers are given instructions on how to send before and during each show. Read what the critics have had to say so far about "Straight To You".... "Groban's genuine boy-next-door demeanor in the midst of violins, french horns, percussion, cello, piano, guitars, bass and drums makes him and his music all the more endearing. He appears truly comfortable performing, like it's his second home." - The Dallas Morning News "Listening to Groban's commanding tenor navigate 'Oceano' and 'Alla Luce,' for example, was to us the same as admiring a painting at the Museum of Fine Arts -- it wasn't necessary to understand the lyrics to understand the song. ... Sometimes beauty, in and of itself, can be both motive and reward. And regardless of the context you're coming from, it can be pretty inspirational, too." - Houston Press "Groban has boyish charm that belies his big voice. If you want to dismiss him as popera, be my guest; but do take a moment to listen to his voice sometime, just for its qualities and tone, and tell me it doesn't draw you in." -Dallas Voice "Impeccable vocals, wit, make Groban concert memorable. Groban proved to be quite the showman, but his vocals truly made the show memorable. He managed to belt powerful and enunciated lyrics, then quickly switch to a soothing falsetto. Few performers have the ability to perform that way live without a hitch." - Wichita Eagle "That had been one of the purposes of the stage set created for his 'Straight To You' tour -- to allow for more interaction between Groban and his fans, whether it be answering questions audience members could text in before the show or getting down among the adoring. But it's simply the case of a talented artist putting his instrument to its best and most effective use. Ringo Starr Shocked By Fury Over Liverpool "Joke"

Ringo Starr was stunned by the reaction of fans in his hometown when he insisted he missed "nothing" about the English city of Liverpool - because the remark was meant as a joke.
The former Beatles
drummer sparked fury among residents in the area where he grew up when he made the comment to British TV presenter Jonathan Ross during an interview in 2008.

Several angry viewers complained to the BBC over the incident, and a Beatles memorial in the city was vandalised, but Starr is adamant the remark was made in jest.

The rocker, who has lived in Los Angeles and Surrey, south England for decades, tells British magazine Live, "I played the Echo Arena (in Liverpool) and everything was great. Then I did the Jonathan Ross show and he said, 'Is there anything you miss about Liverpool?'. I said, 'No'. I was being flippant. It was funny. I thought the whole of Liverpool would laugh."

"But of course I love my Japanese fans and the show must go on, no matter the daily aftershocks or husband kidnappings! It's not right but it's okay,” Perry, 26 added.
Brand also joked about the incident in several Tweets.
"Planning escape from Japanese custody. It's bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick,” he wrote.
"Stockholm syndrome [is] kicking in," Brand added. "Just asked my guard out for (vegetarian) sushi. He giggled."
