Lennon and McCartney's Childhood Homes Preserved

The childhood homes of Beatles legends John Lennon and Paul McCartney are to be preserved as national landmarks.

Lennon's Mendips duplex on Menlove Avenue in Liverpool, England and McCartney's house on nearby Forthlin Road have already been restored to their original state and now both buildings have been awarded grade two listings, which means any alterations require government approval.

Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, is thrilled by the news.

She tells the Associated Press, "Mendips always meant a great deal to John and it was where his childhood dreams came true for himself and for the world."

The Beatles' number one hit Please Please Me was written in Lennon's home and McCartney's residence previously served as a practice space for the duo's first band The Quarrymen.

The childhood haunts of lead guitarist George Harrison and drummer Ringo Starr were not granted the same protection by officials at English Heritage as neither home appeared to be "really intense creative hubs".

The Monkees Pay Tribute To Davy Jones

The Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz says he had a premonition that Wednesday would be a terrible day after suffering bad dreams "all night long."

The group's British-born frontman Davy Jones died early on Wednesday after suffering a massive heart attack at the age of 66, and a heartbroken Dolenz reveals he had a feeling something was wrong hours before he learned of Jones' passing.

In a statement, the singer/drummer says, "Can't believe it... Still in shock... had bad dreams all night long.

"My love and prayers go out to Davy's girls and family right now."

Bassist Peter Tork has also issued his sentiments about Jones' unexpected death, stating: "It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones.

"His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to (Jones' widow) Jessica and the rest of his family. Adios, to the Manchester Cowboy."

And former Monkee Mike Nesmith has also bid a fond farewell to his old pal.

In a lengthy post on Facebook.com, the guitarist writes, "That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you. I will miss him, but I won't abandon him to mortality. I will think of him as existing within the animating life that insures existence. I will think of him and his family with that gentle regard in spite of all the contrary appearances on the mortal plane.

"David's spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us. I have fond memories. I wish him safe travels."

Meanwhile, Star Trek icon William Shatner, singer Nancy Sinatra and veteran crooner Neil Diamond are among those who have also paid tribute to the late star via Twitter.com.

Diamond writes, "I'm sad to hear about Davy Jones. The Monkees were such a sensation that it was a thrill for me to have them record some of my early songs."

The Monkees' most famous tune, I'm a Believer, was written by Diamond.

Sad News: Monkee Davy Jones Dies At Age 66 in Florida

The Monkees singer Davy Jones has died aged 66.

The lead singer of the 'Daydream Believer' group - which also consists of original members Micky Dolenz, 66, and 70-year-old Peter Tork - passed away from a heart attack earlier today (29.02.12), a representative confirmed to TMZ.com.

An official from the medical examiner's office for Martin County, Florida, told the website they received a phone call from the Martin Memorial Hospital informing them that Davy had died.

Davy leaves behind four daughters, Talia Elizabeth, 43, and Sarah Lee, 40 from his marriage to Linda Haines, and Jessica Lillian, 30, and 23-year-old Annabel Charlotte from his marriage to Anita Pollinger.

The pop icon - who was born in Manchester, North West England - married 33-year-old TV presenter Jessica Pacheo - who he met in 2006 - in August 2009.

In May 2011, the singer said he was having some of the happiest times he's ever had in his life with Jessica.

He explained: ''We have love. We have friendship. She's also aware of what I've done in music, and the fact that I no longer really need to prove anything.''

Davy joined The Monkees in J in 1965 along with Micky, Peter and Michael Nesmith - who did not rejoin the group for their shows last year - and they went on to record a number of hit records including 'Daydream Believer', 'Last Train to Clarksville' and 'I'm a Believer'.

Last year, the pop/rock group - who were created to appear in their own TV show in the 60s - reformed for a 45th anniversary tour, but they ended up scrapping some dates amid reports of fall outs between the group.

At the time, Micky wrote on his Facebook page: ''Dear Fans and Friends, The Monkee Tour has, indeed, been cancelled but for reasons that I cannot discuss at this time. I can say that the reasons pertain to business and are internal matters.

''Needless to say, I am disappointed but the situation was unavoidable and I want to apologise to all the fans out there who will not be able to experience what was a wonderful show indeed. Regretfully, Micky (sic).''

Simon Cowell Splits From Fiancee?

Simon Cowell has split from fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy, according to one of the music mogul's friends.

The X Factor judge proposed to the American Idol make-up artist in 2010, but split rumors have been rife since he vacationed with a group of women without her in January of this year.

Cowell recently insisted he was confused about the romance, saying, "I'm vulnerable. It's not on, it's not off, it's somewhere in the middle. I don't know if I will ever get married, but I am happy."

However, his pal Zeta Graff, who was with the star on the sun-soaked vacation, claims the engagement is off.

She tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "Mezhgan was lovely but it was all too much for Simon. As soon as he hears the words 'stability' and 'future', I think it all became a bit too much."

"She was too needy, but he did try. Simon needs a woman who isn’t defined by him, who has her own career or wealth."

"Someone who doesn’t depend on him. But he and Mezhgan are still friends."

Elton John's Son Zachary Steals Limelight At 2012 OscarsBash

Elton John was joined by a cast of A-list celebrities and high profile business representatives as he held his annual Oscars-viewing Aids fundraiser in Los Angeles last night (February 26, 2012) The Elton John Aids Foundation Oscar Viewing Party - to give it the correct title - was held at West Hollywood Park and the guest list included the blue-haired Katy Perry and the actress Fran Drescher. The star guest though, was undoubtedly Elton John and David Furnish's adopted son Zachary.

The Daily Mail has published photographs of Elton, David and Zachary together. Zachary, who celebrated his first birthday on Christmas Day 2011, was dressed in a suit that carried an emblem with his name on. He looked every bit the fashionista that you might expect of a boy raised in a household with one of the pop world's most iconic stars. Their adopted son was a focal point for Katy Perry who looked on, amused, as Zachary was entertained by Fran Drescher's Pomeranian puppy. Esther - the dog - was a source of great amusement to Zachary, who can be seen reaching out to stroke the brown fluffy pooch.

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of Elton John's annual Oscars Viewing Party. The multi-award winning songwriter continues to organise events such as this one to raise both money and awareness for the prevention and treatment of Aids. Rather than the red carpet of the Oscars, Elton's event has a white carpet for the stars to arrive on and he told reporters "We're getting bigger and bigger, which means we're raising more money. And the money gets to people who actually need it."

The Improper Exclusive!: Whitney Houston Death Should Focus on 'Enablers'

Whitney Houston’s death could not have happened without a coterie of enablers who catered to her every whim, even when she was self-destructive, charges Mark Bego, a writer and author who chronicled her career beginning in the 1970s.

In an exclusive interview with TheImproper, Bego drew parallels between Houston’s death and the demise of Elvis Presley and blues singer Billie Holiday.Behind the death for all three were “enablers” who lived off of and profited from their downfall.

“Certainly there is a strong parallel between Elvis and Whitney in that the met their demise with prescription drugs involved,” said Bego. “The fact is that they were both surrounded by an entourage of enablers and doctors who would give them whatever they wanted to ingest.”

Bego was working on a new book based on Houston’s disastrous 2010 comeback tour, when the 48-year-old singer died suddenly Feb. 11 on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Although the cause of death has yet to be established, drugs and alcohol are suspected to be factors.
The book is titled “Whitney Houston! – The Spectacular Rise and Tragic Fall of The Woman Whose Voice Inspired A Generation (Skyhorse).”

“I draw a strong parallel between Billie Holiday and Whitney,” said Bego. “They both had voices and images that defined their lives, and they both became addicted to their drug use and died in their 40s.”

Justin Timberlake Closer To Playing Elton John In Biopic?

Timberlake as Elton John in the 2001 "This Train Don't Stop here Anymore" video.

A month ago, word was that Justin Timberlake was #1 on Elton John's wish list to portray the "Benny and the Jets" singer in an upcoming biopic. Now, it sounds like JT is all but signed up for the role, but is awaiting word on a director before he fully commits.

According to E! Online, John's husband and producing partner, David Furnish, said the two music stars have been in serious discussions about the project.

"We're searching for a director," Furnish said. "It's important we all share the same vision ... Elton and Justin have had conversations about it. Justin also says he has to feel comfortable with the director and the director has to be comfortable with Justin. The chemistry is really important. There's no race to make this. We're just going to take the time to make it right."

Timberlake, who popped up on last weekend's "Saturday Night Live" portraying a different musician — Grammy winner Bon Iver — was reportedly eyed
by John for the role in his biopic after the pair collaborated in the David LaChapelle-directed 2001 clip for John's "This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore."

The Eyelure collection is currently available at ULTA.com and the eyelash company revealed she was very hands on with the collaboration, which mimics her ''personal style''.

A statement said: ''As a false lash lover herself, Katy had a very clear idea of what she wanted to achieve and was involved in every step of the design process.

''We were keen to create a range of lashes that were a direct extension of her own personal style.''

This isn't Katy's first venture outside of pop, the busy star has also created two perfumes and became the global ambassador for hair styling brand ghd last year.
Paul Stoneham, ghd Chief Executive Officer explained: ''Katy is the epitome of modern fashion and styling. Her unique, ever changing looks are the envy of style devotees around the world. Katy completely embodies ghd's spirit of female transformation and empowerment, as she is seen as a cutting edge style icon unafraid to push fashion and beauty boundaries. Sassy, stylish and sexy, Katy is the perfect partner for ghd.''

Oz Ruby Slippers Find Their Way Home: Major Acquisition for Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has acquired a pair of the

iconic ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz” for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Actor

Leonardo DiCaprio led a group of “angel donors” whose gifts to the Academy Foundation enabled

the purchase. In addition to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, a component fund of CCF

Environmental and Humanitarian Causes, donations came from producer-director Steven

Spielberg and Terry Semel, co-chair of LACMA and the former chairman and CEO of Warner

Bros. and Yahoo!, along with other donors.

“The ruby slippers occupy an extraordinary place in the hearts of movie audiences the world

over,” said Bob Iger, president and CEO of the Walt Disney Co. and chair of the capital campaign

for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. “This is a transformative acquisition for our

“Leo’s passionate leadership has helped us bring home this legendary piece of movie history,”

added Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “It’s a wonderful gift to the Academy museum project, and a

perfect representation of the work we do year-round to preserve and share our film heritage.”

These slippers, known as the “Witch’s Shoes,” are in the most pristine condition of the four pairs

of ruby slippers known to exist. It is widely believed that these are the slippers Judy Garland wore

in close-ups and insert shots, most famously when Dorothy clicks her heels three times to return

to Kansas. They are called the “Witch’s Shoes” because they are likely the pair seen on the feet

of the Wicked Witch of the East after Dorothy’s house falls on the witch.

After production of the film ended in 1939, the ruby slippers were stored on MGM’s Culver City lot

for the next three decades. Several pairs of slippers were discovered in 1970 by costumer Kent

Warner while he was preparing for that year’s historic auction of MGM costumes, props and other

production-related items. One pair of slippers was sold at the auction and was donated

anonymously to the Smithsonian in 1979.

Warner kept the finest pair – the “Witch’s Shoes” – in his private collection for more than a decade

before selling them at auction in 1981. They were sold again in 1988 to another private collector,

and have been displayed publicly only a handful of times in the years since, most notably at the

National Portrait Gallery and the Library of Congress. The 2012 sale to the Academy was handled

by auction house Profiles in History.

Last October, the Academy and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced plans to

establish the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures inside the historic May Company building,

currently known as LACMA West. The building has been a Los Angeles landmark since its

opening in 1939, the same year “The Wizard of Oz” premiered.

Katy Perry Lands TV Role As Prison Guard

Pop star Katy Perry is set for a spell behind bars - as a tough-talking TV prison guard in hit U.S. comedy Raising Hope.

The Firework hitmaker will join the cast of creator Greg Garcia's Emmy-nominated TV series for the upcoming 6 March (12) episode - and the singer has her best friend, Raising Hope star Shannon Woodward, to thank for landing her the role.

In a fun statement, the estranged wife of comedian Russell Brand says, "Shannon Woodward is my best friend. A couple weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when she called me up and asked if I wanted to do something 'fun' for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, 'Sure, I have nothing else to do, and I like chillin' with my best friend.'

"Greg was nice, but I hope he's not secretly sabotaging my potential future career by typecasting me in the role of just a looker, so that I would never be able to play anything more challenging."

An equally entertaining statement from executive producer Garcia reads: "Shannon Woodward told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, 'Why not? Let's do your friend Katy a favour.'

"Then she came in and did a terrific job. She was hilarious. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground. It's a tough business."

Seinfeld Actor Daniel Von Bargen: Shoots Himself In Head Then Dials 911

The 61 year-old actor Daniel Von Bargen has shot himself in the head and then made a dramatic call to the emergency services. In the call, the operator tries to keep the suffering actor talking until the paramedics arrive. A transcript of the 911 call has been published on the Daily Mail's website today (February 22, 2012).

The conversation apparently took place "about 10 minutes" after the shooting, according to Von Bargen. During the call, he explains to the operator that he shot himself in the head because he did not want to go to hospital. The actor, who is best known for playing the role of Mr Kruger in the comedy series Seinfeld, suffers from diabetes and has previously had a leg amputated as a result of the disease. He was due to go to hospital today but told the 911 dispatcher that he couldn't face another amputation: I was supposed to go to the hospital today and I didn't want to. I shot myself. I've already had one leg amputated... I'm tired."

Shortly after saying "I'm tired," Daniel Von Bargen reveals that he can hear someone at the front door. A policeman's voice is then heard, saying "Police department, let me see your hands, keep them right there," aware that a gun has been involved in the incident and keen to ensure that no further shots are fired. Von Bargen is reported to have been taken to Bethseda North hospital in Cincinnati. His condition is described as 'critical but improving.'

Adele Scores Biggest Grammys Boost In Awards' History

Following her stellar performance of 'Rolling in the Deep' at the televised Grammy awards, Adele has experienced the biggest ever leap in sales as a result of Grammys success. The British singer saw an impressive 207% sales increase on the pre-Grammys week, according to the New York Daily News. That's a total of 730,000 albums shifted in just seven days. This marks the largest boost in sales for a single artist in the Grammy awards' 54-year history. The previous record holder was Norah Jones, who shifted 621,000 copies of album 'Come Away With Me' in 2003, after winning Album of the Year.

The second biggest post-Grammys increase has gone to The Civil Wars, who experienced a 178% increase in sales. The country-folk duo, who have recently duetted on the track 'Safe and Sound' with Taylor Swift, jumped from 39 to number 8 on the Billboard chart, having sold 35,600 copies of their debut album, Barton Hollow. And Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters saw a hike of 134%, propelling them from number 55 to number 19 on the US albums chart.

This isn't the only record that Adele has broken since her feted Grammy appearance: Her album, 21, has now retained its position at the top of the US album chart for 21 consecutive weeks. The Londoner has finally beaten the record set by Whitney Houston's soundtrack album The Bodyguard, released in 1992.

Katy Perry Writing 'Explosive' Songs After Russell Brand Split

Katy Perry is reportedly penning ''explosive'' tracks following her split from Russell Brand.
The 'Firework' hitmaker is said to be finding it ''extremely therapeutic'' to write songs for her new album after her relationship break up.
A source told Grazia magazine: ''Katy goes from being angry one minute to upset the next. And she really is laying everything out there in her music, which she says has been extremely therapeutic.
''This new album will certainly be explosive.''
Katy appeared to hit out at Russell when she performed new song 'Part of Me' at the Grammy Awards earlier this month, as it included lyrics such as: ''You can keep the diamond ring. It don't mean nothing anyway.''
And insiders believe Rihanna was in full support of the 27-year-old beauty's performance.
A source added: ''Katy's performance was intended to stick two fingers up at Russell. Her best friend Rihanna fully encouraged it, too.''
