Katy Perry 9th Number 1 Single!

Katy Perry has scored her ninth number 1 single at Top 40 and tenth consecutive number 1 single on the Dance/Club Play charts with “Wide Awake,” a track from Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, the special edition of her double-platinum certified album Teenage Dream. Katy ties Rihanna’s record for the most number 1’s in the nearly 20-year history of Billboard’s Nielsen BDS-based Mainstream Top 40 chart. "The achievement is even more impressive given that while the chart launched the week of Oct. 3, 1992, Rihanna didn’t first grace the list until 2005 and Perry didn’t arrive until 2008. Of the acts with the most Mainstream Top 40 number 1s, the top seven are women. After Katy and Rihanna, Lady Gaga, P!nk and Britney Spears each have seven leaders, while Beyoncé and Mariah Carey follow with six apiece," reports Billboard Magazine.

"Wide Awake" was written for her 3D feature film Katy Perry: Part of Me, which has earned more than $24 million domestically and is approaching $30 million in international box office. With many countries still to open, Part of Me is already the fourth biggest music documentary of all time, outpacing films from Madonna, U2, and The Jonas Brothers.

Katy was also just nominated for 4 MTV Video Music Awards including Best Female for “Part of Me” and Video of the Year for “Wide Awake”.

The singer will be honored with the 2,475th star on August 10 - in front of the Capitol Records Building.

Hollywood Chamber of Commerce officials have been trying to nail Diamond down to a date for years.

Spokeswoman Ana Martinez tells WENN, "We finally were able to pin him down for a date to dedicate his star. This is one busy man and we are thrilled to honor this legendary performer."

Steven Tyler: 'American Idol wasn't all fun"

Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler has parted ways with theAmerican Idol producers by revealing the TV talent show wasn't all fun.

The Love in an Elevator singer quit the show after two seasons earlier this month - a day before fellow judge Jennifer Lopez followed him out the door - and he is now admitting he only agreed to sit alongside J.Lo and Randy Jackson for the cash, and to give his bandmates the chance to calm down after he announced plans for a hiatus.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest... not my cup of tea.

"I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J.Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life."

But Tyler admits he didn't like the workload - or the prompting to be meaner, like Simon Cowell, the judge he replaced: "It was just hard work - seven-hour days and then I went and did the (Aerosmith) album for eight hours after that.

"The show's about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the p**s out of (mock) the kids and I don't have that in me. That's not what I'm about. That's more about that other guy (Cowell). Not me."

Bret Michaels Calls Off Engagement

Rocker Bret Michaels has called off his engagement to the woman who nursed him through a series of medical emergencies in 2010.

Kristi Gibson, the Poison star's longtime girlfriend and the mother of Michaels' two daughters, has split from the rock star, ending a 16-year romance.

The 49-year-old singer asked Gibson to be his wife in December, 2010 as part of the finale of his VH1 reality showBret Michaels: Life As I Know It.

A spokesman for Michaels says, "Although the couple have separated, they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters, Raine and Jorja."

Sheryl Crow Files For Restraining Order

Sheryl Crow has filed for a restraining order against a fan who has allegedly threatened her life.

The rocker claims Phillip Gordon Sparks believes she stole money from him and now is threatening to harm her in a series of angry online posts.

In papers filed in Los Angeles and obtained by TMZ.com, Crow states, "It was clear to me that (Sparks) was deeply disturbed because his posts were delusional, rambling, filled with profanity and laced with angry rants... (He claimed) I had broken into his house because I was looking for his gun.

"Other posts claimed that I was supposedly filming him surreptitiously, tried to have him arrested and that I had stolen money from him... All of these allegations are, of course, categorically false."

The papers also allege Sparks claims to have told an official at the Screen Actors Guild that he was going to shoot her last week.

Crow says the news was "extremely alarming", and she now fears for the safety of her family and employees.

Producer Defends Kristen Stewart: "Kristen Stewart did not have any type of sex with Rupert Sanders... "

Kristen Stewart's Welcome to the Riley's producer, Giovanni Agnelli, has jumped to the defense of his former leading lady amid the fallout following her cheating confessions.

The Twilight star stunned fans and Hollywood insiders last week when she revealed a tabloid story about a fling with director Rupert Sanders was true.

It now appears her romance with Robert Pattinson is over after removal vans were spotted outside the Los Angeles home the couple shares - and his fans have turned on Stewart.

But Agnelli feels the vitriol aimed at his young friend is over the top, insisting there's no way she slept with married Sanders, as has been suggested by some media outlets.

In a series of tweets on Monday, the producer rants, "I'll say right now what the manipulative media isn't saying... Kristen Stewart did not have any type of sex with Rupert Sanders... The spin that keeps growing on this story is staggering. There was NO on set affair. Stop printing LIES.

"If one of your friends in real life was hurting, and lots of people were being cruel. Wouldn't you ask them to please stop? Honestly?"

And, taking aim at Twilight fans who have dubbed Stewart a 'Trampire' following her indiscretion, he adds, "If you've ever used the word Trampire you're a mindless pathetic piece of [expletive]."

Agnelli also took a moment to thank fans who have pledged their support to Stewart, revealing she has seen a "twitition" and "support video" and adding, "Thank you."

The drama began when shots of Stewart and Sanders kissing featured on the cover and inside last week's Us Weeklymagazine.

Katherine Jackson Agrees to Share Guardianship of Grandchildren

Michael Jackson's mother has agreed to share guardianship of the King of Pop's three children with their cousin TJ Jackson, after she was temporarily stripped of the responsibility on Wednesday.

A Los Angeles judge suspended Katherine Jackson as the prime caregiver of her grandkids Prince, Paris and Blanket, and appointed Tito Jackson's son as their temporary guardian amidst a family feud, which began when the matriarch was reported missing last weekend.

The 82-year-old returned to the Calabasas, California home she shares with the youngsters on Thursday after a 10-day "vacation" at an Arizona resort, and she vowed to fight the court ruling to have her reinstated as guardian.

However, Katherine has since had a change of heart and on Friday, it was revealed that she had reached a deal with 34-year-old TJ to share guardianship at the request of teenager Prince and his siblings. A joint proposal, which will see TJ deal with administrative details, will be filed in court next week.

A statement released by Katherine's attorney Perry Sanders reads: "Mrs. Jackson is extremely pleased with the prospect of enjoying the pleasure of raising Michael’s children without the day-to-day tedium of items such as managing the large staff that goes with such a high-profile family and focus her attention on being a grandmother and raising Michael’s children.

"She is eager to simply enjoy her great relationship with these children, while deeding over some of the stressors that go hand in hand with being a guardian."

Meanwhile, Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff has ordered an independent investigation into the three children's welfare to see how they are dealing with the family drama.

The report will include private interviews with each of the kids and will only be reviewed by the judge.

Robert Pattinson Looking To Have “Man To Man Chat” With Rupert Sanders

Robert Pattinson is planning to have a “man to man chat” with Rupert Sanders about the director’s fling with Kristen Stewart, an insider tells RadarOnline.

"Rob wants to have a man to man chat with Rupert to find out exactly what happened between him and Kristen," the source says. "Kristen has already betrayed his trust by cheating, so he can't be sure that she will tell him exactly what went on between her and Rupert. Rupert has a wife and a family to save, so Rob feels like he has nothing left to lose and would be honest with him."

Stewart confessed to having a brief fling with Sanders, the director of her latest film Snow White and the Huntsman, on Wednesday after Us Weekly magazine published pictures of them kissing. She also apologized to Pattinson, who she has been dating for several years.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," Stewart said.

Sanders released a statement saying he is “utterly distraught” about the pain he caused his wife Liberty Ross. "My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together,” he said.

Weekend Film Pick: Jobriath A.D. at NewFest, Lincoln Center, Saturday 7-28, 10:30PM

By Anne M. Raso

Glam rock fans have long been waiting for someone to do a documentary on Jobriath, the first "out" rock star--or rather, out "almost" rock star. Back in 1974, the outrageous New York by way of Philly-based singer/songwriter was poised to be "the biggest rock star in the world"--he had more media that any other artist before him, including a $50,000 billboard on Sunset Street and New York bus signs promoting his album.
Creatures Of The Street Album Cover
He appeared on The Midnight Special with a flabbergasted, unscripted Gladys Knight introducing the two songs ("Rock Of Ages" and "I'maman") he and his band performed, and he was undoubtedly talented but never "blew up" with the mainstream crowd. He called himself "a true fairy" and many people have wondered if Jobriath never became popular because he offended homophobic sectors of mainstream America, was mishandled by manager (rock impresario Jerry Brandt who later owned The Ritz nightclub) or was seen as a David Bowie copycat. (His costumes and sets were actually even more outlandish and "space age" than Bowie's, and on Midnight Special, he appeared onstage wearing a glass bowl on his head that broke away into about six pieces and fell to his shoulders!)
Self-titled debut album cover
Director Kieran Turner of Eight Track Tape Productions did documentary out of his love for the artist, but also as a gay man asking the questions: "What went wrong with this artist hyped to become the biggest rock star of all time?" and "Would people have cared if he was gay if he was starting out today?" Did we fail to mention that Jobriath (born Bruce Wayne Campbell) was just an overall difficult personality for even the most jaded people in the record business to deal with?

It comes as no surprise that Jobriath ended up announcing his retirement from the music business in January 1975 (after two albums) and then making a living as a lounge singer named Cole Berlin at the Covent Gardens restaurant in NYC. He died alone in a Chelsea Hotel penthouse triplex apartment of AIDS back in 1983, and his body was not found for days.

There were even more complex issues that made Jobriath's career go downhill, including drug addiction, alcoholism and classic rage-a-holic fights with Brandt, one that included the celebratory post-Midnight Special appearance chocolate cake smashed by Jobriath right into Brandt's face and onto a new tan suede jacket. Jobriath A.D. analyzes if Brandt was the devil or angel in the whole career downfall of this unique artist. Certainly, Jobriath would not have had his deal with RCA Records in the first place if Brandt hadn't used his connections to get it.

The film features interviews with Brandt, Marc Almond, Ann Magnuson, Jobriath's family and Joe Elliott of Def Leppard who claim to be influenced by this "true fairy of rock and roll." There will be a Q&A after the film with director Kieran and some surprise guests that may include some of the names I just mentioned!

Jobriath A.D. has been making the gay film fest rounds and tomorrow night at Friday, July 28th at 10:30 PM it will screened at the beloved NewFest at the Walter Reade Theater (Rose Building) in Lincoln Center, 115 West 65th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the box office or by going to http://www.filmlinc.com/films/on-sale/jobriath-a.d. Tickets are $12. This film is not rated. For more info, go to http://www.newfest.org or check out Jobriath A.D. on Facebook.

It is worth mentioning Jobriath's keyboardist Hayden Wayne just penned an e-book bio on his former bandmate called Jobriath: A History Of Sexual Indulgence (Bareknucles Press) that we'll also be checking into this weekend on our Kindle Fire. You can purchase it for only $2.99 at amazon.com, Kobo or bn.com.

Eric Burdon Postpones Tour Dates To Undergo Back Surgery

Today Eric Burdon’s management announced that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is scheduled for back surgery later this week and subsequently Burdon has had to cancel more scheduled dates in 2012.

Earlier this year Eric, who has been suffering back pain for over 3 years, was forced to cancel his Summer European Tour.

It has been a debilitating situation and as a performer whose schedule has been unrelenting, Eric is excited to finally have a solution that will enable him to get back out on the road.

Eric's surgery involves micro-decompression in the lumbar region of the spine and will be performed in Los Angeles, California. This is considered a routine surgery, however Burdon’s doctors report that he will experience a reduction in his activities during a recuperation period that can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months.

Management have not only postponed Eric’s live performances, they also had to postpone his new record release 'Til Your River Runs Dry, on ABKCO until the first quarter of next year and his EP with the Greenhornes which is now due on November 30, 2012.

Eric has been touched by the outpouring of support from his fans, he appreciates their good thoughts and well wishes and thanks them for being there for him and supporting his music for over 5 decades. He can’t wait to share his new tunes with them, so look for a couple sneak peaks coming soon.

Robert Pattinson Leaves Home He Shared With Kristen Stewart

According to PEOPLE.COM, "Rob Pattinson has packed his bags. Following Kristen Stewart's public apology for having a fling with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, the 26-year-old actor has left the Los Angeles home he shared with Stewart, PEOPLE has confirmed. "I'm not sure they'll be able to recover from this," a source says of the couple of three years, who met making the Twilight trilogy. In seclusion and not in contact with Stewart, 22, the British star "is heartbroken and angry," says the source. A "devastated" Stewart, meanwhile, described Pattinson as "the person I love and respect the most" in her apology following revelations of her indiscretion with Sanders, 41, a married father of two. Katherine Jackson: I Was Not Held Against My Will

Hours after being temporarily stripped of guardianship of her late son’s three children, Katherine Jackson spoke out about the family drama that led up to the judge’s decision. In a statement read on camera to ABC News, the 82-year-old denied allegations her children held her against her will in Arizona. She said she was voluntarily enjoying a “short vacation and rest” at Miraval Resort & Spa.

"I am devastated that while I've been away ... my grandchildren have been taken away from me, and I'm coming home to see about that," Jackson said with her children Rebbie, Jermaine and Janet standing behind her.

"There are rumors going around about me that I have been kidnapped. I am here today to let everybody know that I am fine and I am here with my children, and my children would never do a thing to me like that, holding me against my will. It's very stupid for people to think that," she said.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff gave Michael Jackson’s nephew TJ temporary guardianship of Paris, Prince and Blanket in an emergency hearing on Wednesday. Beckloff said it appeared Katherine was unable to act as guardian because of an “intentional act from third parties."

TJ’s attorney, Charles A. Schultz, told Beckloff there was “immediate harm to the minor children, there was a potential abduction at the house, in addition to a phone call from Katherine last night that gave us real concern”

"This is not a power play by TJ Jackson," Beckloff said. "This is based on the allegation that Katherine Jackson is being prevented from acting as guardian."

“We are looking at this as a Band-Aid until Miss Jackson returns or re-establishes contact with the kids,” said Schultz.

Katherine was given guardianship of the children after Michael Jackson died in 2009. She lives with the Prince, Paris and Blanket in a Calabasas home rented by the King of Pop’s estate. Earlier this week, police were called to the home after an altercation between two unnamed members of the family. The fight happened after Jackson siblings Janet, Randy and Jermaine allegedly attempted to remove Paris, Prince and Blanket from the home.

Lady Gaga Sued For $10 million

Bosses of a toy manufacturer licensed to make a doll of Lady Gaga have filed a lawsuit against the star.

The singer and her management and licensing companies are being sued for $10 million by executives at MGA Entertainment for an alleged breach of contract, according to the New York Daily News.

It is claimed Gaga requested the removal of a voice sound chip from the doll which put the company under pressure to meet their deadline for retailers.

Company bosses had hoped to ship the figure to shops in time for Christmas but they allege the singer and her team "engaged in intentional and deliberate delays" to stop the toy reaching shelves until 2013, so it coincides with the release of her new album and perfume.

Chiefs at MGA Entertainment paid Gaga's licensing company Bravado International Group a $1 million advance but they are now petitioning to release the doll as soon as possible.

A spokesman for the pop star tells the New York Daily News, "Lady Gaga will vigorously defend MGA's ill-conceived lawsuit and is confident that she will prevail... There was no legitimate reason for dragging Lady Gaga into that dispute."

Russell Brand Charged Over Phone Throwing

Russell Brand is due to be arraigned in court later this week of a charge of criminal damage to property following a clash with a photographer in March.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star stands accused of snatching a photographer's iPhone and hurling it through the window of an abandoned building in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He turned himself in to police shortly after the incident and on now the New Orleans District Attorney hit him with a misdemeanor charge.

Brand, who is not required to appear in court for the upcoming arraignment, faces up to six months in prison if convicted.

The actor previously brushed off the allegations by making a joke about the incident on Twitter writing, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."

Paparazzo in Justin Bieber Car Chase Charged

A paparazzo Justin Bieber accused of harassment following a recent high-speed car chase in Los Angeles has been charged with multiple counts of reckless driving.

The singer was ticketed for speeding on July 6th after he was caught traveling at more than 80 miles-per-hour in his luxury Fisker Karma sports car, while trying to shake off a pack of photographers who had been tailing him on the 101 Freeway.

Bieber singled out Paul Raef as the alleged leader of the crowd and subsequently filed a police complaint against the freelance photographer, who had reportedly fled the scene of the crime, despite cops' attempts to flag him down.

Authorities launched an investigation into the incident and now the Los Angeles City Attorney has hit the suspect with four charges under a new paparazzi law, which makes it a crime to create a dangerous situation while in pursuit of a celebrity for profit, reports TMZ.com.

Raef is facing two counts of following another vehicle too closely and reckless driving, with the intent to capture pictures for commercial gain, one regular charge of reckless driving and one of failing to obey the lawful order of a peace officer.

If convicted, Raef could be jailed for up to a year and be fined a total of $3,500.

Raef, who is the first to be prosecuted under the 2010 law, is due in court on August 9th.

Katherine Jackson Suspended as Grandkids' Guardian

Michael Jackson's mother Katherine has been suspended as the guardian of the King of Pop's three children following the controversy surrounding her recent trip to Arizona.

Katherine Jackson sparked concerns about her whereabouts and well-being following conflicting reports about her location.

The 82-year-old's nephew, Trent Jackson, allegedly filed a missing persons report on July 21st after Katherine's grandchildren were unable to contact her as she rested under doctors' orders with her daughter Rebbie in Arizona, but her son Jermaine spoke out on July 22nd and claimed his mother was "fine", a report which has since been backed up by police following a visit to Rebbie's home.

However, Katherine's sudden disappearance has raised questions over her ability to properly care for Michael's kids Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket. So their cousin TJ - Tito Jackson's son - headed to court for an emergency guardianship hearing in a bid to temporarily replace his grandmother.

During the court appearance, TJ Jackson choked back tears as he recalled a strange phone conversation with Katherine.

He said: "I've never heard my grandmother talk like that. She wasn't sharp. The pauses, choice of vocabulary... she has not used certain phrases like that before."

Judge Mitch Beckloff then approved TJ's petition and named him temporary guardian, stating he had reason to believe his grandmother may be "prevented from acting as a guardian because of the acts of third parties."

Katherine's lawyer Sandra Ribera says, "We have reason to believe that Mrs. Jackson has been held against her will."

Kristen Stewart Apologizes to Robert Pattinson For Cheating

Kristen Stewart
has issued a public apology for hurting her boyfriend of three years Robert Pattinson by having a fling with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director.

People reported about the fling and quoted a source saying Stewart and Rupert Sanders were not having an affair and that "it was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened."

The source added that Stewart "never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice."

Stewart herself has now released a statement to People about the incident saying, "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

The 41-year-old Sanders, who is 19 years older than Stewart, is married to actress/model Liberty Ross and they have two young children. Ross appeared as a young Stewart's mother in Huntsman.

Sanders issued his own apology to People saying, ""I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family."

"My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together," he added.

Stewart and Pattinson met while filiming the first installment of Twilight and rumors about them being an off-screen couple began almost immediately.

The pair denied being in a relationship at first but have become increasingly open about it recently.

Modern Family' Stars File Lawsuit Against Studio

A table read for Modern Family had to be canceled after Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell filed suit against TV studio bosses in a dispute over their contracts.

The show's adult stars claim their current longterm deals with executives at 20th Century Fox TV are in violation of California labor laws, which state personal service contracts can last no longer than seven years.

They are asking a judge to declare their prior agreements null and void, allowing them to renegotiate fresh contracts with increased salaries.

The main castmembers, who are said to have made $60,000 each per episode for season three, reportedly rejected TV producers' recent offer of $150,000 each per episode and they are seeking a considerable increase in pay. They are also asking for more freedom to take on non-Modern Family work, an option which is said to be seriously limited in their current contracts.

A planned table read for the first taping of the upcoming fourth season had to be canceled on July 24th as a result of the legal wrangle. The lawsuits were filed in Los Angeles.

The show's other adult star, Ed O'Neill, is believed to be in a different salary level than his co-stars, reportedly banking more than $100,000-per-episode. However he is also reportedly unhappy with the studio's latest offer and Entertainment Weeklyreports he will also join the suit.

Dark Knight Rises' Cast Speaks Out On Aurora Shooting

The cast of "The Dark Knight Rises" have lent their voices to the growing list of public figures speaking out against the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Leading actors Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway have both released official statements condemning the violence, which took place during a showing of their new film.

"Words cannot express the horror that I feel," said Bale in a statement. "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."

Hathaway echoed Christian's sentiments in her own statement, saying:

"My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act. I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families," she said.

Director Christopher Nolan also shared his thoughts:

"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of 'The Dark Knight Rises' I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community," he said. "The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me," he added.

Modern Family Star Vergara takes on 'Family Guy' role

Robert Pattinson's mom duped by tabloids

Actor Robert Pattinson has to field questions about his love life from his own mother because she is constantly tricked by tabloid rumors.

The Brit has been dating Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart for the last few years and in recent weeks false reports have surfaced suggesting the couple is set to wed.

But Pattinson has had enough of the fake stories running rampant, revealing his mom, Clare, has even been duped into believing her son was engaged.

He tells BlackBook magazine, "There was a magazine, with these pictures, saying I was getting married. No one ever knows what is true or what isn't. Even my own mom called to ask me if it was true."

Mel Gibson Hit With Lawsuit

Actor Mel Gibson's stepmother has accused the actor of breaking up her marriage to his father.

The Braveheart star's father, Hutton, filed for divorce from wife Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson and kicked her out of their marital home in June, and now the 78-year-old has accused the actor of causing the break-up.

According to documents filed in Los Angeles, Teddy is seeking up to $65,000 in damages to cover her legal bills and a court order forcing Mel to allow her entrance into the house, according to TMZ.com.

This is the latest in a string of legal woes for the family - Teddy filed a restraining order against the actor earlier this month over claims he threatened her and spat in her face.

Russell Crowe to Make Directorial Debut

Actor Russell Crowe is set to make his feature film directorial debut in a new biopic about late U.S. comedy legend Bill Hicks.

The Gladiator star, who was originally in talks to play the lead role in the project, has agreed to step behind the camera for the film, written by his former schoolmate Mark Staufer.

Production is slated to begin next year and the pair has yet to begin casting, but Staufer tells Britain's The Telegraph, "Bill Hicks' life is tragically short, but spectacularly interesting. The screenplay has gone through a number of drafts and we'll go into production early next year.

"It is a huge role for someone, made all the more special, or downright scary, by the fact the director is an Oscar-winning actor like Russell."

Hicks lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 1994, at the age of 32.

The project won't be Crowe's first directorial challenge - he has previously shot short films and his singer wife Danielle Spencer's music videos.

Mariah Carey Is Officially An American Idol Judge

Mariah Carey is officially an American Idol judge! A little over a week after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler separately announced their departures from the show, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has confirmed Carey finalized a deal with Idol bosses several hours ago.

"We do, in fact, have one judge whose deal closed very, very recently. It's an artist that many contestants have tried to emulate, have tried to have sung the songs, have tried to hit the notes and because it really was concluded only hours ago, our judge couldn't be with us,” Reilly said at the Television Critics Association summer tour Monday.

Carey spoke via speaker phone. "I am so excited to be joining Idol. First of all, I wanted to be there today and I wish I could've been there to tell you, but I think you know this all kind of just happened real quickly, so I can't wait to get started in a couple months,” she said.

Although Idol bosses have not announced who will replace Steven Tyler, Miley Cyrus and Adam Lambert are rumored to be favorites. Meanwhile, the fate of the last remaining original judge, Randy Jackson, remains unknown. Insiders claim Jackson may leave the panel because producers want to “freshen everything up now.” Jackson will likely move into a “mentoring role,” a source says.

Katherine Jackson Reported Missing

Michael Jackson's mom Katherine is at the center of a police investigation after she was reported missing.

A missing persons report is said to have been filed in California on July 21st after members of the Jackson clan were unable to get in touch with the matriarch for a week.

Michael's daughter Paris took to Twitter to ask her followers to contact authorities with any sightings of Katherine.

She tweeted, "Yes, my grandmother is missing. I haven't spoken with her in a week... I want her home now. If anybody sees my grandmother, please call the authorities or this... security number. Thank you so much."

Now a statement has been issued by Katherine's attorney, Sandra Ribera, alleging the matriarch vanished after boarding a flight to see her sons in concert in New Mexico, Arizona, and Las Vegas.

Ribera writes, "When Michael's children last saw their grandmother on July 15, 2012, she was in great health physically as well as mentally."

"Prince, Paris, and Blanket are the light of Katherine Jackson's life, as she is to those children. Out of concern for Mrs. Jackson's well-being and in an effort to ensure her being safely reunited with her grandchildren as soon as possible, a report was filed on Saturday with the Sheriff's Department who will be investigating this matter."

However, Jermaine Jackson assured followers on the same day that the 82-year-old Katherine is "fine" and "resting up" in Arizona.

He wrote on Twitter, "I want to reassure everyone... that Mother is fine but is resting up in AZ on the orders of a doctor, not us... This is our mother and her health is paramount. We are not inventing or plotting anything. We are following doctor's advice. Period."

News of Katherine's disappearance comes just days after Jackson siblings including Jermaine, Randy and Janet fired off a letter contesting the authenticity of their superstar brother Michael's will.

The Jacksons accused John Branca and John McClain of faking legal documents prior to the singer's death in June 2009, and Katherine is believed to be in the middle of the dispute over the family's financial affairs.

Branca and McClain subsequently issued a statement slamming the allegation that Jackson's will was not authentic as "false and defamatory."

Elton John Wants To Reconcile With Billy Joel

Elton John is still holding out hope he can reconcile with former pal Billy Joel, after candid comments about thePiano Man's drinking problems led to months of estrangement.

The Tiny Dancer hit-maker battled drug and alcohol problems early on in his career and only managed to kick his habits in the 1980s after attending a strict treatment program in Illinois, and he called on his friend and former touring partner to follow his lead during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine last year.

The music legend called on Joel to get serious about overcoming his alcohol demons in the article and upset Joel with his remarks. Over a year has passed since the interview was published and now Elton admits his words have had devastating effects - the two no longer speak.

During an appearance on The Today Show on Wednesday, he said, "He was angry about that, he wrote me a thing (note that said), 'You shouldn't judge people. Who are you to judge?' And I said it because I thought it might get through. And I can understand him being angry about it and we haven't really communicated since."

The icon also apologized for causing him pain.

He added, "Billy Joel is the kindest, sweetest man and the most talented songwriter and a great, great artist. If he called me tomorrow and said, 'Let's have lunch,' I'd go lie down in shock because I adore him. I only said it as tough love but he was upset and I'm sorry I upset him."

Author Mark Bego on Aretha Franklin and American IdolL

“Aretha Franklin has long been revered as the epitome in the terms of ‘singing icon’ and ‘musical legend,’ so on one hand her volunteering to  join the cast of ‘American Idol’ seems to be a brilliant and refreshing  idea that would assuredly interpret into ‘press worthiness’ and ‘viewer
anticipation.’ She’s a veteran of the music industry; having worked with such revered figures as ‘Arif Mardin’ and ‘Jerry Wexler;’ but Miss Franklin also carries with her a lifelong  reputation as a fickle diva who is totally out of touch with reality. Don’t forget, she earned her reputation as ‘Queen of Soul,’ and as a mentor developing new acts, she’d be a fine choice. Truth be told, she’d definitely be a shot in the arm for the ailing show.”
