Sylvester Stallone’s son died from a heart attack.
Sage Stallone, 36, was found dead at his home in the Hollywood Hills in July and now the Los Angeles County Coroner has determined the actor/producer died of natural causes.
The experts have ruled out an overdose revealing no drugs were found in his system at the time of death.
His movie star has been struggling with grief ever since the tragedy, but he recently confessed he’s working past the worst of it, explaining, “It’s tough. It’s very tough… It’s a horrible situation. Time, hopefully, will heal, and you try to get through it, but it’s just something. It’s a reality of life. I think it’s important to get back and start reliving your life. Otherwise, you can go into a spiral.”

Music mogul Simon Cowell has been hailed a hero after saving nine passengers on a sinking boat.
The X Factor judge was on his yacht off France's south coast when he heard a May Day distress call and sprang into action.
Cowell instructed his captain to head towards the struggling vessel, and he and his crew sent out a smaller boat to retrieve those onboard and bring them to safety.
Cowell's heroics were revealed by his longtime pal and ex-girlfriend, singer Sinitta, who took to Twitter.com to give followers live updates as their vacation drama unfolded.
She tweeted, "OMG (oh my God)!! Just had a May Day message, 35ft boat sinking... (Cowell) has sent us to help and rescue 9 people on board!"
Minutes later, Sinitta added, "Everyone ok, no one hurt. Captain won't let boat sink, petrol in sea etc would cause major problems and fines. No tide, so hole plugged."

Rock veteran Alice Cooper is urging youngsters not to watch reality TV shows as he fears children will aspire to finding fame instead of carving out a proper career.
The musician admits he can't stand shows which give participants a fleeting moment in the spotlight and he worries young people are being unduly influenced by the lure of instant fame.
In a blog for the Huffington Post, Cooper writes, "There's one thing that really gets my horned goat in this grand scheme of things. Reality TV! Please, don't get your head turned in an Exorcist style and think it's the way to fame and fortune, kiddies!
"Believe me. I might be a rock star, all glitter, fake blood, make-up and theatrics (with awesome rock anthems of course) but you've no idea the hard graft and craft that's gone into my career.
"The problem is with wanting to be a reality TV star, you're only famous for a little while. You can't live on that fame forever. That's one of the major problems with the whole schtick."
Cooper even disapproves of TV talent shows such as American Idol and The X Factor as he claims they don't give talented artists a fair chance.
He adds, "The only thing I have against X Factor and American Idol and things like that is that they just keep putting out the same person. They keep putting out these cookie-cutters that can go, 'Oh yeah, I can sing Barry Manilow!' Well, how about you write your own song?
"If Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop, David Bowie or myself were auditioning for American Idol, we wouldn't get past the first audition, because that's not what they're looking for. They're looking for the next guy that 10 years from now, is going to be a singer on a cruise ship... That's really what their career is going to be, because there is no creativity in it."
Problems started for Lohan last week when she and her assistant, Gavin Doyle, attended a party at the Los Angeles home of millionaire Sam Magid, who later called authorities to report that jewelry was stolen.
The actress tried to leave the party at around noon the next day, but Magid realized that he was missing several expensive watches and sunglasses, so he advised everyone to stay at the house while he contacted the police.
Cops are still continuing their investigation, but believe that they have independent witnesses who will identify Lohan and Doyle as the thieves.
Lohan is currently on probation from an earlier case where she stole a necklace from Venice, Calif. If Lohan is found guilty, she could face jail time for violating probation.
The actor met up with Halliwell backstage at the 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony in the U.K. capital and they were subsequently snapped enjoying an outing with the singer's daughter Bluebell at Hampton Court Palace.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun that the pair is dating, but neither Brand nor Halliwell had commented on the report as WENN went to press.
Brand divorced Katy Perry earlier this year after just 14 months of marriage, and had been linked to Hollywood agent Isabella Brewster.
Madonna has published a new "manifesto" defending the violence and gun imagery featured in her latest world tour.
The pop superstar has repeatedly courted controversy throughout her ongoing MDNA trek, brandishing fake machine guns onstage, displaying swastika symbols and even exposing her nipples.
But in a new free-verse message, released by Billboard.com, the Material Girl remains adamant that she does not condone violence and insists her headline-grabbing antics were conceived as entertainment.
Madonna's note begins, "My show is a journey... it is part cinematic musical theater, part spectacle and sometimes intimate performance art... When you watch a film there are usually good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point. Sometimes I play both."
She adds, "It's true there is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the use of fake guns - but they are used as metaphors. I do not condone violence or the use of guns. Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging."
"In my case its (sic) wanting to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken."
The Beatles legend Ringo Starr has been named the world's richest drummer, ahead of Phil Collins and Dave Grohl.

Playgirl and the promoters of The Chippendale hope Prince Harry will strip for them after the British royal was photographed naked by a pal in Las Vegas.
The candid shots of Harry partying in a Las Vegas hotel suite caused shockwaves earlier this week when they hit the Internet - and they have since been published in British tabloid The Sun, despite concerns from royal family officials.
And now the publisher of Playgirl, Vincent Stevens, is keen to get his hands on the royal jewel.
Just a week after the cousin of Harry's sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, bared all for Playboy, Stevens tells Eonline.com, "There's no way in the world that he would ever consider this but you're talking about numbers in the six figures right off the bat.
"He's a wild party guy and he's appealing to a lot of people because, although he's from the royal family, there's sort of this untamed nature to him. I think that's something that's really attractive to our readers and to the general public. He can't be contained by the royal family. He's just a free spirit.
"I think the bidding would start in the low six figures. I think a million dollars is not out of the question."
And the men behind The Chippendales are also keen on adding Harry to the line-up. A spokesperson tells TMZ.com, "Chippendales at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino are reaching out to the royalty (sic) to gauge his interest in being our next guest host. We figured that since he seems to enjoy taking his clothes off in Las Vegas, why not do it on stage."

Elton John is preparing himself and his adopted son for what looks to be a childhood filled with intimidation, persecution and physical violence. The "Rocket Man," speaking with Radio Times, says that Zachary faces many hurdles as a child:
"Being the child of someone famous is a huge ball and chain around your ankles. It's going to be very difficult."
"At school other children will say, 'You don't have a mummy.' We've come a long way, but there's still homophobia and will be until a new generation of parents don't instill it in their children," he added.
Zachary was born to Elton and his partnerDavid Furnish via surrogate on Christmas Day 2010. Since then, the pair have mentioned interest in obtaining another child through surrogacy.

Introducing the movie, he says, "Ladies and gentlemen, what you are about to see is the product of our imaginations and believe me, at this point they are quite vivid."
The restored version of Magical Mystery Tour will hit stores in October.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have both pulled out of scheduled promotional appearances for the upcoming edition of the "Twilight" franchise. The news comes via Creation Entertainment, who revealed that the former couple have opted out of four convention appearances.
The news comes as no surprise following their highly publicized split. It was revealed earlier this summer that Stewart had cheated on Pattinson with director Rupert Sanders while the pair worked together on "Snow White and the Huntsman."
"The passion and dedication of Twilight fandom has been amazing and we're out to throw one last giant convention, a final gathering to see old friends that have made up the Twilight family," reps for Creation said in a statement.
"Although Rob, Kristen and Taylor will not be with us this time out we will have a super line-up of other Twilight stars and the weekend will be filled with special events, movie prop and costume displays, contests, panels, auctions, parties, exclusive merchandise, music and much more, including some surprises!"

Ripa and her new co-host will interview Homeland actress Claire Danes and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips.
Daniel Radcliffe, Alec Baldwin, Cat Deeley, Carrie Ann Inaba, Jerry O'Connell and Neil Patrick Harris a are among those who have joined Ripa on the show.

Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell is recovering from a heart attack last week.
The actress, 50, has opened up about her health scare last Tuesday on her Rosie.com blog, revealing she refused to believe she was going into cardiac arrest and simply took some aspirin to relieve her pain after hearing the advice in a TV commercial.
Writing in verse form, she states, "i became nauseous/my skin was clammy/i was very very hot/i threw up. Maybe this is a heart attack/i googled womens (sic) heart attack symptoms/i had many of them/but really? - i thought - naaaa".
O'Donnell chose not to call for an ambulance and instead opted to see her cardiologist the following day (15Aug12). She was sent to the hospital to have a stent put in and the star admits, "i am lucky to be here."
Her representative Cindi Berger claims O'Donnell is now recovering from the incident in Los Angeles, telling People.com, "She is now home and resting comfortably. She is very, very lucky."
It's been a trying month for the comedienne - she recently revealed her fiancee Michelle Rounds had been diagnosed with rare cancer-like desmoid tumours and had undergone surgery in June.
"I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening,” a source claims.
Neither Minaj, 29, nor Fox has commented. About four weeks ago, the network confirmed Mariah Carey is replacing Jennifer Lopez. Lopez and Tyler announced their departures in early July.
"The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass. Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it. ... Now it's time to bring rock back,” Tyler said in a statement at the time.
"I honestly feel the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that you do, and you have to pay attention to that, too. I could keep doing Idol for the rest of my life, but that would be giving up a bunch of other things. I feel like we had an amazing run,” Lopez said in a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest.
Meanwhile, Fox has not commented on the fate of Randy Jackson – the only original judge remaining on the show. Insiders claim Jackson may leave the panel because producers want to “freshen everything up now.” Jackson will likely move into a “mentoring role,” a source says.
Phyllis Diller, a comedian whose routines often included jokes about housekeeping and her fictitious husband Fang, passed away Monday at the age of 95. Diller was surrounded by her family when she died in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles.
“She was a true pioneer. She was the first lady of stand-up comedy. She paved the way for everybody. And she conquered television, movies, Broadway, record albums, nightclubs, books, and radio. She did it all. A true pioneer," the comic’s agent Fred Wostbrock tells Entertainment Weekly.
Diller got her start performing at clubs in the 50s. She shot to fame in the 60s when she starred alongside Bob Hope in TV specials and films. Diller went on to appear on TV Shows like “The Jack Paar Show” and “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.” She also had a short-lived NBC variety show called “The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show.” In later years she made guest appearances on shows like “7th Heaven,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Boston Legal.”
Diller was married twice and had six children. She is survived by two daughters and a son.

Kovar’s struggle with drug and alcohol abuse was featured on the 2008 season of Real World. He left midway through the season to enter rehab. Actress Kristen Stewart was noticeably absent from the red carpet at the London premiere of her new movie On The Road.
The film's male stars Sam Riley, Tom Sturridge and Danny Morgan attended the glitzy event at the British capital's Somerset House without their leading lady, after she decided not to fly to the U.K. to help promote the movie.
Stewart hit headlines last month when she admitted to an "indiscretion" with married director Rupert Sanders behind the back of her boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson and she has been lying low ever since.
When asked about Stewart's absence from the premiere, her co-star Morgan said the actress was upset she wasn't able to attend, telling website Heatworld.com, "It's a shame. We would have all loved her to be here and it would've been great and I know she's sad she can't be here.
"She would've loved to be here because I know she's so proud of this film and her performance in it and she's amazing in it. People will be blown away by it. She's incredible."
Stewart will reportedly return to the spotlight when On The Road is showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada next month.
Thomas Haden Church leaped into action and helped to save a man's life on Thursday after he started choking at a Los Angeles restaurant.
The Sideways star was having lunch at top eaterie Soho House when a fellow diner began coughing and spluttering as he struggled to gasp for air.
Church immediately sprung into action and successfully performed the Heimlich Maneuver on the unidentified male as other shocked customers looked on.
His heroic efforts earned Church the praise of staff at the venue and they rewarded him by waiving the cost of his meal, but, when quizzed about the incident on Friday, the humble actor simply brushed it off.
He told TMZ.com, "I really don't wanna talk about it, it's like, too sensational. I'm just glad the dude's OK..."

Actress Jennie Garth has started dating again following her split from Peter Facinelli earlier this year.
The couple announced its divorce plans in March after 11 years of marriage, and a slimmed-down Garth recently admitted the break-up had taken its toll on her emotions, resulting in her dramatic weight loss.
But the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star has found a reason to smile again after meeting photographer Noah Abrams.
The pair was photographed walking hand-in-hand in Los Angeles on Tuesday and UsMagazine.com reports Garth and Abrams are dating.
A source tells the publication, "She's been going on dates. She's not looking to get into anything too serious too fast. (But) she's happier than ever!"
Garth recently told In Touch magazine that she has turned to former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry to help her through her split, revealing he has been a great source of advice after going through a painful divorce a decade ago.
Kristen Stewart will make her first official appearance since her cheating scandal at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada next month.
The 22-year-old has been lying low since confessing to cheating on her Twilight co-star and boyfriend Robert Pattinson with married director Rupert Sanders last month, but she will have to face the media and the public once again in September as she begins promoting her latest film, On the Road.
Stewart, who portrays Marylou in the big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac's classic novel, has been confirmed to attend the annual Toronto event alongside castmates Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams and Garrett Hedlund, reports People.com.
On the Road will premiere at the festival, which begins on September 6 and runs for 10 days.
Pattinson has already had to put his personal troubles aside and focus on work - he hit the red carpet for the New York premiere of his new movie Cosmopolis on Monday and has continued to fulfill all of his press commitments since.
He split from Stewart after news of her "indiscretion" broke last month and has refused to even mention her name in TVappearances this week.
"Xena: Warrior Princess" star Lucy Lawless has reportedly signed on to guest star on the upcoming season of "Parks and Recreation." According to a new report from ew.com, she will appear in at least two episodes of the show as the new love interest of character Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman).
She will reportedly play a single mother named Diane, who meets Swanson when she stops into the Parks Department with a complaint. According to ew.com her first episode will appear on October 4.
Offerman spoke on the possibility of a shake up in Ron's love life with ew.com saying:
"We're hoping to maybe see a new relationship develop for Ron," he said. "One thing Ron's never succeeded at is maintaining a happy romantic relationship for any length of time. Maybe we'll get to explore that a little bit."

Alice Cooper thrilled an audience in London on August 14th by joining the cast of West End musical Rock of Ages for a one-night performance.
The rocker took to the stage at London's Shaftesbury Theatre to perform his hit track School's Out to mark the 40th anniversary of the single hitting the number one spot in the U.K. chart in 1972.
A post on Cooper's website reads, "Alice paid a visit to the cast of Rock Of Ages UK on Tuesday, August 14th, where he delivered a relentless version of the classic School's Out."
Footage of the night shows Cooper singing the track with members of the cast performing a dance routine behind him.
Cooper had teased fans with hints about his appearance in Rock of Ages, which was adapted into a hit movie starring Tom Cruise.
In a series of posts on Twitter he wrote, "Hearing that Rock Of Ages UK in London is good. But worthy of me crashing their little show? I'll be the judge of that!"
He also sent a link to a video of a guillotine sequence from his live show to castmember Shayne Ward, alongside the message, "You're next! I know where you live."
Twilight star Robert Pattinson is set to follow in the footsteps of Peter O'Toole and portray Lawrence of Arabia in a new movie.
Pattinson has been cast as British Army officer T.E. Lawrence in upcoming project Queen of the Desert, alongside Naomi Watts as writer Gertrude Bell, according to industry publication Variety.com.
Pattinson's new film character was made most famous by O'Toole in the 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia.
Duane "Dog The Bounty Hunter" Chapman has reportedly been denied entry into the U.K. due to his involvement with the 1976 murder of a Pampa, Texas man named Jerry Oliver. He was traveling to the country to begin shooting the newest season of the U.K.'s "Celebrity Big Brother."
According to contactmusic.com, Chapman was stopped at the border and denied entry into the country by the U.K. Border Agency. The Border Agency issued an official letter on their decision reading:
"Records show that you were convicted of one offence which carried a sentence of five years. According to those records, that conviction is not spent."
Chapman was, in fact, convicted and sentenced to five years on first-degree murder charges after one of his friends shot and killed Oliver during a drug deal. The reality star served 18 months of that sentence and has been very open about his conviction throughout his career.
The Four Seasons frontman Frankie Valli is set to make his Broadway debut in October to commemorate the band's 50th anniversary.
The 78-year-old will perform a total of seven shows at the Broadway Theatre, beginning on October 19.
A statement from Valli reads, "I've performed around the world in every size theater imaginable, but it has always been my dream to play Broadway."
The Four Seasons have experienced a resurgence of late thanks to the Tony Award-winning show Jersey Boys, which opened in 2005 and features covers of the band's most famous hits, including Big Girls Don't Cry and Sherry.
Jodie Foster has come to the defense of her Panic Room co-star Kristen Stewart and blasted the media for constantly hounding the young actress as she tries to cope with the public fall-out following her cheating confession.
The Twilight star stunned Hollywood last month after admitting to an "indiscretion" with married director Rupert Sanders.
The revelation has turned her into a target for bitter fans and members of the press alike, who have dubbed her a "trampire" for betraying her boyfriend Robert Pattinson.
Foster, a former child star herself, sympathizes with Stewart, who played her daughter in Panic Room, and insists she should not have to deal with the intrusive media.
In a lengthy article posted on news website TheDailyBeast.com, Foster recalls the moment she met a happy, sociable 11-year-old Stewart on the set of 2002 film Panic Room, admitting, "I grew to love that kid."
And she fears the stresses and strains of life in the spotlight have taken their toll on the actress.
Foster adds, "A beautiful young woman strides down the sidewalk alone, head down, hands drawn into fists. She's walking fast, darting around huge men with black cameras thrusting at her mouth and chest. 'Kristen, how do you feel?' 'Smile Kris!' 'Hey, hey, did you get her?' 'I got her. I got her!' The young woman doesn't cry. [expletive] no. She doesn't look up. She's learned. She keeps her head down, her shades on, fists in her pockets. Don't speak. Don't look. Don't cry."
Wrapping up her commentary piece, the Hollywood veteran urges Stewart to fight through the tough times - because surviving a media storm and coming back stronger is the best way to overcome adversity.
She continues, "Eventually this all passes. The public horrors of today eventually blow away. And yes, you are changed by the awful wake of reckoning they leave behind. You trust less. You calculate your steps. You survive.
"Hopefully in the process you don't lose your ability to throw your arms in the air again and spin in wild abandon. That is the ultimate [expletive] and - finally - the most beautiful survival tool of all. Don't let them take that away from you."
Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is engaged to his girlfriend of two years, Molly McNearney.

The funnyman, who previously dated comedienne Sarah Silverman for five years, has been married once before - he wed his ex-wife Gina in 1988. She is the mother of Kimmel's two children.
Ron Palillo, the actor who starred alongside John Travolta on the 70s sitcom ‘Welcome Back, Kotter,’ died suddenly early Tuesday morning. TMZ reports Palillo’s longtime partner Joseph Gramm found him unresponsive in their Palm Beach, Florida home around 4 a.m. The 63-year-old was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. It appears he suffered a heart attack. No other details were immediately available.
Palillo got his big break when he was cast as Arnold Horshack on ‘Welcome Back, Kotter.’ He starred on the series alongside Travolta, Gabe Kaplan, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs and Robert Hegyes from 1975 to 1979. After ‘Kotter’ ended, Palillo voiced characters in several animated TV shows, including ‘Laverne and Shirley in the Army,’ ‘Rubik, the Amazing Cube’ and ‘Darkwing Duck.’ In later years he returned to stage in productions of ‘Amadeus,’ ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ and ‘Guys and Dolls.’
With Palillo’s death, Travolta and Hilton-Jacobs are now the only surviving “Sweathogs” from ‘Welcome Back, Kotter.’ Hegyes died of a heart attack in January.

Singer-songwriter Gabriel Kelley (www.gabrielkelley.com) had already packed a lifetime of experiences into a relatively short time frame when he moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a songwriter. He grew up in rural Georgia , near Athens , where his family lived off the land. He lived in Sweden as an exchange student—where an astute teacher helped him to discover his musical potential—and eventually settled in Guatemala working with a program that built schools and developed music education programs for orphaned children, all before the age of 21. After three years of working as a staff writer for a publishing company, he let his contract with expire, sold everything he owned and bought an RV in which to live, write and record.
Gabe raised $26,000 in 60 days via a Kickstarter campaign to finance his record, and, now at 27,his debut album, IT DON’T COME EASY, was just released by Nashville-based Badge Music, produced by Grammy-winner Neal Cappellino (Allison Kraus, Joan Osborne, Del McCoury). Backing him up on the record is three generations of notable musicians, among them Brad Pemberton and Joel Graboff (both formerly of the Cardinals), Dave Jacques (John Prine, Shelby Lynne), Gabe Dixon, Bekka Bramlett (Fleetwood Mac, Joe Cocker) and the legendary Reggie Young (Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield).
Here are some live performance links of songs from the album:

ADRIAN NILES will make his New York City debut, at B.B. King’s on Thursday, September 6, opening for the legendary New Riders Of The Purple Sage.
Niles has had a particularly significant 2012 so far; first evidenced by the fact of having two of his songs featured on F/X’s show Justified in the spring; on the episode entitled Loose Ends - “Harden To Heal” and “Same Road.”
Based in Shadyside, Ohio, Niles has continued to produce authentic, American-rock, as with his album of last year Roll & Move, which featured the song “Skylark,” which succeeded in generating play on many AAA outlets.
Last month Niles was interviewed on the Sirius/XM show Brett Winterble about his continuing exploits and forthcoming shows in NYC, on the sat-caster’s On The Verge segment of his show. Winterble was struck by Niles’ passion to his craft. Said Winterble, “There’s no question about it; he’s going to be a major player very soon. I can’t think of a better choice to kick off this new series. He’ll be back on again very soon.”
Through the course of 5 albums, Niles has continued to demonstrate the originality that true music lovers appreciate and watch for. Roll & Move took third place honors in the Bluesforum.com 2011 CD of the year.
Currently working on a new album, tentatively titled Struck Down Dreaming, Niles’ forthcoming NYC-debut at B.B. King’s will indeed be a special treat.

Long began compiling the volume last year while touring in support of his debut album, A WINTER TALE. “I was on the road for four months straight, basically in the back of a van, and I got sick of playing with my phone and playing with my laptop, and I decided to go for it fully,” he says. “I would write every morning, and then go for coffee for a break, and I took a really disciplined stance to it. When I got home, sometimes I wouldn’t leave my apartment all day and just write. The discipline aspect allowed me to separate the poems from my music.”
The provocative collection delves into various universal themes, among them love, desire and disappointment with a healthy dose of memory and reflection. The title stems from Long’s realization of what he left behind when he abruptly moved from London to New York to pursue his music career in 2010. “I left my family and my friends, and I just went and didn’t really say good-bye to anyone,” he recalls. “’Losing My Brotherhood’ refers to a specific group of three close friends who I lived with in London for four years and shared everything with, and who I don’t get a chance to see anymore. We were like brothers, but I know that time is now over. It’s a tribute, really.”
One of those three friends is artist and musician Ben Edge, who contributed the 15 bold pen and ink drawings that illustrate the book. “We always wanted to work on something together,” says Long, “and this was the perfect opportunity. I sent him the poems, and he drew the illustrations free hand.”
Born near Manchester in Wigan (of George Orwell fame), Bobby Long grew up in a small town in Wiltshire, a setting for another of Britain’s revered writers, Thomas Hardy. Although he has been writing poetry and prose since the age of 12, becoming a writer was not pre-ordained. A poor student who struggled at school, he felt like an outsider until an astute teacher recognized his learning deficits and helped him to discover the joy of reading. “I never kept a journal or a diary, just lines on little slips of paper, words on a page,” he explains. “I never told anyone at school that I wrote, or I would have been beaten up. At the start, it was more of an expressive thing. I was a dreamer, and I would get lost in my own imagination. Now, I try to write something every day.”
A number of the poems in LOSING MY BROTHERHOOD deal with memories of childhood and growing up in rural England. “I wrote most of those poems while I was on tour in Australia at Byron Bay,” Long recalls. “I was there on a beautiful day and didn’t want to go swimming alone—I actually didn’t like being on my own there at all. Sometimes it’s hard to get away from your surroundings, but I wrote five different poems that day. I went far deeper in the poems than I do in my songs. I often write from the passenger seat as an observer. The poems are far more personal, with no guitar to hide behind.”
At 18, Long moved to London to attend university, graduating with a degree in sound and media for film. He quickly established himself as a musician on the local open mic circuit, finding his voice and creating songs characterized by catchy melodies paired with elusive, imaginative lyrics. There he met a circle of fellow musicians, among them the brotherhood of the book’s title.
In 2009, after amassing a loyal fan base for his music, America beckoned, and following nearly a year of touring, Bobby relocated to New York City, which became a new muse for his writing. “I feel more at home in New York than I have anywhere else,” says the 26-year-old, who incorporates the city’s sights, streets, sounds and smells into several of his poems. “I have a comfortable life where I can express myself on a full time basis and make a living at it. It’s very different from my life in England.”
The cover of LOSING MY BROTHERHOOD (designed by Tim McCarthy) features a photograph entitled Four Mennonite Farmers by New York-based photographer William Waldron (williamwaldron.com). Says Long: “It’s four farmers, each with different hats on, all looking in different directions. I thought that it depicted me and my three friends, and it felt like it was vast and never-ending. I contacted the photographer’s manager to ask if I could use it.”
Long’s deft songwriting skills have amassed critical acclaim, the Los Angeles Times, for example, stating “his tunes are sturdy, but graceful, like the curve of something hand-carved.” “Raw,” “organic,” “earnest,” “romantic” and “poignant” are among the adjectives used to describe his songs, many of which can also be applied to his poetry.
Long’s own tastes in poetry range widely from Pablo Neruda and Dylan Thomas to Féderico García Lorca and Leonard Cohen. The book includes a poem dedicated to Mr. Cohen, who began his own career writing poetry before turning to songwriting and performing. While LOSING MY BROTHERHOOD is Long’s newest project, he isn’t planning to incorporate poetry into his musical performances. “They are two separate things,” he says. “The book is a very personal thing.”
Bobby Long has just completed the recording of his second album of original material, produced in Los Angeles by Ted Hutt (Flogging Molly, Gaslight Anthem, Old Crow Medicine Show). It is slated for release by ATO Records in the fall. Long is currently on tour opening for Steve Winwood and will announce summer concert plans shortly as well as fall tour dates in support of his forthcoming album.

The Smithereens will be rockin' the Hudson River this Friday night, August 10th at 8PM. Being a die-hard New Yorker for the past 25+ years who actually grew up in northern NJ, I dare to say that there's no better river to rock and no better band to rock it!
A Smithereens show is a real event and almost like a reunion where the hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of fans there all seem to know each other for years! Summer is (not surprisingly) the time fans get the most chances to catch them on tour; their most recent album, 2011, released in April 2011, was their first studio album of original material since 1999's God Save The Smithereens. They've been around now since forming in Carteret, NJ in 1980 via an ad that lead singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Pat DiNizio put in The Aquarian Weekly, and the band has not changed members except for bassist Mike Mesaros, who left seven or eight years ago to move to San Francisco and pursue a career as a chef. Stepping into to "take over the thump" was LA native Severo Journacion, aka "The Thrilla From Manila" who also seems to act as a comic foil for DiNizio. (They're sort of like the Abbott & Costello of classic rock, LOL!)
I can easily list ten reasons off the top of my head why you should be at the Smithereens' Rockin' The River cruise on Friday night, and any apologies are made ahead of time for sounding like a gushing fan even though I'm a member of the AARP age group (LOL):
1) The Smithereens have a not-so-secret weapon--the greatest drummer in the world, Dennis Diken, who also has backed up numerous legendary artists in the studio and in concert (including Ronnie Spector). He also happens to be a great rock historian and journalist/liner notes writer who's got 50,000 albums in the basement of his central NJ home.
2) DiNizio's still got it--the best baritone voice in rock and roll and one of the Top 10 songwriters of all time.
3) The booming bass of the Thrilla--and his trademark scream. I think it says "Go Nuts!" on the back of his famous red bass, and he holds it up to make the audience well, "go nuts."
4) Jim Babjak is one of the unsung masters of the Rickenbacker--I go ballistic when I see that early 60s model brought onstage that was used on many original Smithereens recordings. Let me add that he's not bad on the Telecaster, either!
5) The band's newer material is written in the classic style of the band. It sounds modern, but classic.
6) The Smithereens are masters of Beatles and Who covers and they put their own trademark sound on them. For a big kick, view the cover of Meet The Smithereens, which features bobble head dolls of each member of the group. (Hats off to graphic artist Todd Sinclair who designed it!)
7) They've been called "the seminal college rock band" but they're so much more.
8) They still rock even when they are doing one of DiNizio's legendary ballads like "Cut Flowers" or "Beauty And Sadness."
9) These guys know how to rock Buddy Holly glasses and Hawaiian shirts like no other band in the land.
10) They're so consistent at what they do! Their consistency level live is especially amazing and I've seen the "reensabout seven times, not to mention their splinter groups and DiNizio's solo sets. They rock because they are huge FANS, not just ace musicians.
AND A BONUS REASON: The band has Paulie Smith as their head--possibly the longest running roadie for ANY band if you count the bands Pat DiNizio was in prior to starting the Smithereens back in 1981. Smith is a childhood friend of the Scotch Plains native and can be traced back to DiNizio's bands of the 70s. Smith's also an ace electrician and you can catch a glimpse of him in the band's last video, "One Look At You." You'll know Smith at the Rockin' The River Cruise--he's the guy with the ponytail doing the retro-style dancing to the more uptempo numbers!

Singer Barbra Streisand says she is "devastated" by the death of acclaimed composer Marvin Hamlisch and that she tried to contact her "dear friend" on the night of his passing.
The singer/actress befriended Hamlisch in the 1960s and they went on to work together on a number of projects, including the 1973 movie The Way We Were, which earned the musician two Academy Awards.
He collapsed after a brief illness and died on Monday, and Streisand has been left heartbroken by the loss.
In a statement posted on her website on Tuesday, she writes, "I'm devastated. He was my dear friend. He's been in my life ever since the first day I met him in 1963, when he was my rehearsal pianist for Funny Girl. He played at my wedding in 1998... and recently for me at a benefit for women's heart disease.
"The world will remember Marvin for his brilliant musical accomplishments, from A Chorus Line to The Way We Were, and so many others, but when I think of him now, it was his brilliantly quick mind, his generosity, and delicious sense of humor that made him a delight to be around."
Streisand reveals she was all the more shocked to learn of Hamlisch's death because she had been thinking about him on Monday.

Micky Dolenz, Lead Singer and Drummer of The Monkees Announces Upcoming Solo Album, 'Remember', Poised for Worldwide Release on September 25, 2012
Produced and largely arranged by David Harris, Remember promises classic tunes that will evoke some cherished memories from listeners of all ages. Dolenz opens up a time capsule of pop hits from decades ago, updating them with a tone that is reminiscent of his younger days as a Monkee and appreciative of the music that continues to inspire him.
The lyrics of the warm ballad, “Remember,” encapsulate this nostalgia—“Remember is a place from long ago / Filled with everything you know / Life is just a memory / Close your eyes and you can see / Think of all that life can be.”
"Remember had just been finished when we heard the tragic news of Davy Jones' passing" added Rob Christie, President of Robo Records/Waterfront Ent. "which made the theme all the more poignant for Micky."
The track list of Remember portrays an “audio scrapbook of the important songs in my life that had meant something to me for one reason or another,” according to Dolenz. He incorporates new versions of classic songs, re-imagined. The original writers of these songs range from some of his pals to The Beatles, Carole King, Harry Nilsson, and Neil Diamond.
One of Dolenz’ most exciting memories lies behind his cover of The Beatles’ “Good Morning Good Morning.” He reminisces, “One day, Paul [McCartney] invited me down to Abbey Road studios for a new album they were doing [Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band]. I must have expected some kind crazy, love-festival, Beatlemania event so I got dressed accordingly. I must have looked like a cross between Ronald McDonald and Charles Manson!” He was surprised when he got to the studio, since it had plain white walls and the only people there were the Fab Four in jeans and t-shirts, just playing their music. John Lennon called out, “Hey Monkee Man!” and offered to play Dolenz a song they had been working on… “Good Morning Good Morning.” This song was “burned into my neural pathways forever,” he says. And now he performs his own version of it as the lead track on Remember.
Remember also features a cover of the Chuck Berry classic, “Johnny B. Goode,” in homage to the start of his Monkeescareer. “The song was my audition piece for The Monkees, and that’s the song that got me the gig which changed my life forever.” After The Monkees began skyrocketing, Dolenz developed his musical personality even further.
“Several of these tracks are songs that I had been offered [in the past] by incredible song writers and I had turned them down for some stupid reason or another. They went on to become big hits for other artists,” according to Dolenz. For example, “‘Sugar Sugar’ was supposed to be the next Monkees song.” It was the song that caused a historic revolt between The Monkees and their producers. Of course, it went on to become a huge number one hit for the Archies… a cartoon band!Dolenz explains, “I never wanted to do the song, but producer David Harris did an incredible arrangement for this new album and talked me into it. It’s now become one of my favorites on the album!”
Dolenz felt he couldn’t have released this album without including his most famous vocal track of The Monkees, “I’m a Believer,” written by Neil Diamond. “The song became such an important track in my career.” In the re-imagined version onRemember, Dolenz wanted to do something completely different with it. “I’ve always wanted to do a country version of this song, and this was my opportunity. And yes, kids… I recorded this long before Shrek,” Dolenz jokes.
For Micky Dolenz, the friendship that evolved along with the music-making magic was another inspiration for the theme of this album. “We hit upon the title ‘Remember’ because of my dear friend Harry Nilsson, who I was very close to. I was actually there when he wrote the song [“Remember”]… and it stayed with me for the rest of my life.”
Micky Dolenz’ Remember is an enjoyable and fun audio scrapbook of Dolenz' most cherished memories. It is sure to be a special treat for all audiences ~ Get ready to take a trip down memory lane!
In her final film role, as the character Sparkle's world-weary mother, finally Whitney Houston has come full circle. It is a fond and fitting farewell to a true singing legend. Her dynamic acting with Jordin Sparks is totally compelling onscreen.
It makes you wonder just what Whitney was capable of in the future. It is a fitting send off.”

In an exclusive interview on Sirius/XM’s BRETT WINTERBLE SHOW (who lived in New York, from 93-98 and praised The Mayor as the best one ever!) that aired last night, Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani reminds that he signed the first pro-gay rights bill in NYC and expanded on it. “Discrimination is sick.”
Giuliani, as feisty as ever, still has praise for current-Mayor Bloomberg. “I applaud him for staying out of the Chick-fil-A situation, although I wish he stay out of the Coca Cola, Pepsi soda situation.”
Stumping for Romney at events, Giuliani says that 70%-75% of the public says we're heading in the wrong direction; claims President Obama leads by following; and, that the President is the reason we are not recovering.”
Giuliani says that on his last race for mayor, he ran on his record. Obama, he says, is running away from his record.

In his first two months onboard, Winterble (who’s on 9:00PM each night on Sirius/XM channel 168) has spoken to a wide swath personalities, orchestrated by Salidor ; Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez; former Mayor Rudy Giuliani; Micky Dolenz; Debbie Gibson; Kate Taylor; and, former Surpeme Mary Wilson. “I'm trying to get a well-rounded series of people, for Brett to speak with; yesterday he had on political satirist Will Durst as well as security-expert David Nance, whose information after Aurora proved very informative and timely. Next week, Peter Asher and Bangle-Susanna Hoffs."
Salidor adds that the Emerson-educated Winterble is a quick study and that more often than not, the name he’s booked get back to him with tremendous words of praise for the chat-host. “From my PR-background, I always encourage my clients, as well as the writers, to follow up with me with their feedback. In Bret’s case, almost all of the guests have gotten back to me with high praise. That’s a great sign. He’s a great interviewer … who pays attention. Interestingly enough, I think his favorite guests so far have been Durst, Taylor and Gene Cornish."
Salidor’s PR-component, the dis COMPANY, continues as well. “There was never any thought to not continue with that; rather what I'm doing now is an adjunct to it. He also manages musician/writer Adrian Niles who opens at B.B. King’s on September 6 for New Riders of The Purple Sage, something Salidor feels will have a great impact on his career. “Adrian had two tracks on F/X’s Justified this spring, so there was a 50% increase in his awareness within the industry; this gig will do another 50%.”
Salidor looks to expand his booking stint to other stations. “In light of downsizing at various stations, I feel I can come in and really give them a leg-up in regard to booking key personalities. We’d be very interested in exploring these situations.”
“With Brett, I'm now on the other side of talent; buying it, rather than selling it. It’s terrific and I applaud his producers, Brandon Damore and Rod West who made this happen. I'm having a terrific and very productive time.”

Katy Perry has fueled rumors linking her to John Mayer after the singers were spotted out enjoying enjoyed a night out together.
Perry spent the evening with Mayer at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in West Hollywood before leaving and getting into a car with him.
Perry, whose divorce from Russell Brand was finalized in July, previously met up with Mayer in June at a private members' club in Los Angeles, where Us Weekly magazine reported the couple was being "affectionate, holding hands and cuddling."
After much speculation on whether the promotional tour for Twilight: Breaking Dawn 2 will be affected by the breakup of stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, Summit Entertainment says they are “moving full steam ahead” with promotional plans.
"While it is studio policy not to comment on the personal lives of actors, Summit is moving full steam ahead and looking forward to this November's opening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2. We are confident that the film delivers amazing entertainment for our passionate fans and general audiences alike,” Summit marketing president Nancy Kirkpatrick said in a statement Wednesday.
Neither Pattinson, 26, nor Stewart, 22, has commented. The pair split last week after Stewart confessed to having a brief fling with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. She issued a statement saying her “momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob.”
Pattinson is currently hiding out at the Ojai, California vacation home of his Water for Elephants costar Reese Witherpoon, according to People magazine. Stewart moved out of the Los Angeles home they shared over the weekend.
Katherine Jackson regained guardianship of Michael Jackson’s three children Thursday, a week after Los Angeles Judge Mitchell Bleckloff named her grandson T.J. temporary guardian amid reports Katherine, 82, was being held against her will in Arizona. In Thursday’s hearing, Bleckoff said Katherine was doing “a wonderful job” taking care of Prince, 15, Paris, 14, and Blanket, 10.
"It's clear that the kids love Mrs. Jackson and they are very well taken care of. They also love T.J. Jackson, and Mrs. Jackson is doing a terrific job with the children,” Bleckoff said.
T.J., 34, will remain temporary guardian for now. He will eventually share full guardianship with Katherine.
Katherine was temporarily stripped of guardianship last Wednesday after Beckloff said it appeared she was unable to act as guardian because of an “intentional act from third parties." Hours after the decision, Katherine read a statement to ABC News denying she was held against her will. She said she was voluntarily enjoying a “short vacation and rest” at Miraval Resort & Spa.
"I am devastated that while I've been away ... my grandchildren have been taken away from me, and I'm coming home to see about that," Katherine said with her children Rebbie, Jermaine and Janet standing behind her.
"There are rumors going around about me that I have been kidnapped. I am here today to let everybody know that I am fine and I am here with my children, and my children would never do a thing to me like that, holding me against my will. It's very stupid for people to think that," she added.

Jermaine Jackson has pulled out of a family bid to overthrow Michael Jackson's estate executors in order to put an end to the drama and make peace with the administrators.
The King of Pop's kids and other young members of the family have been at odds with their uncles and aunts since the confusion surrounding family matriarch Katherine Jackson's well-being and whereabouts surfaced in July just days after Michael's siblings Tito, Janet, Randy and Jermaine added their signatures to a letter accusing estate bosses John Branca and John McClain of faking the icon's legal documents prior to his death in June 2009.
Katherine, who had been resting in Arizona, subsequently lost her role as the primary carer of Michael's children Prince, Paris and Blanket and a judge appointed their 34-year-old cousin, TJ Jackson, as their temporary guardian.
The court ruling caused uproar within the Jackson family, and the controversy reportedly prompted Branca and McClain to ban certain members from visiting the Calabasas, California home Katherine shares with her grandkids.
However, Jermaine has now chosen to follow in his brother Tito's footsteps and withdraw his name from the letter, which kicked off the drama, following an emotional phone call with his son Jaafar.
In a lengthy post on Twitter's TwitLong spin-off Jermaine writes, "Enough has become enough... After much soul-searching, it is clearly time for us to live by Michael's words about love not war. In this spirit, I offer this statement by way of extending an olive-branch. Accordingly, I rescind my signature from the letter which was sent to the Estate, and which should never have gone public."
Jermaine admits he still has "deep reservations about many issues involving the Estate", but accepts that "public conflict" is not the way to deal with the problems. He admits the family is "still raw from the loss of Michael three years ago" and as a result, he and his siblings have become "perhaps understandably and unapologetically over-protective" over their mum.
Jermaine also opens up about the incident that took place at the Jackson compound recently when he, Janet and Randy arrived in Calabasas to speak to teenagers Paris and Prince and their brother Blanket.
He explains, "We went to the house in Calabasas to talk directly with the kids and merely discuss arrangements for them to meet with their grandmother. We were denied that access by security - and it was clear that mutual suspicions had allowed events to spiral out of control. I regret that events were ever allowed to reach such a stage. I regret any distress caused to Prince, Paris and Blanket."
"That was never, ever the intention of myself, Janet, Rebbie or Randy. Moving forward, the most effective way to best serve Mother's welfare, and that of Michael's children, is to start a collective dialogue, in private. Mistakes have been made and irrational things have been said on both sides in a highly-charged emotional environment. It is time for us all to draw a line in the sand and move towards peace, co-operation, love and healing."
