The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shocked commuters at High Street Kensington today with a surprise visit to see Poppy Appeal volunteers in action.

The royal couple spent around 10 minutes chatting to Royal British Legion fundraisers and were even treated to a serenade from a busking volunteer.

William and Kate were mobbed by stunned underground passengers and shoppers in the concourse area of the busy London station.

Royal protection officers had to call for more uniformed police to help cope with the sheer volume of people desperate to see the couple.

Hundreds of people took out their camera phones to get a photo of the royals.
