'Lone Ranger' Will Be A Great Movie in 10 Years, Producer Says

Hollywood mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has defended The Lone Ranger after it proved a flop with film fans, insisting it will be considered a great movie in the years to come.

Director Gore Verbinski's modern reimagining of the Wild West tale, featuring Armie Hammer as the masked lawman and Johnny Depp as his trusted sidekick Tonto, bombed when it earned just $29.4 million at the U.S. box office on its opening weekend earlier this month.

The movie also failed to impress the critics, but Bruckheimer is adamant its detractors will look back on it with fondness in years to come -- like his 1983 dance classic Flashdance.

He said, "It reminds me of a critic who called Flashdance a 'toxic dump'. Ten years later (the critic) said, 'This is really a good movie. I missed it.' I think (The Lone Ranger is) going to be looked back on as a brave, wonderful film."

For Didn't It Rain, Laurie follows the trajectory of the blues upstream and into the American heartland. It includes songs dating back to early pioneers W.C. Handy ("St Louis Blues")and Jelly Roll Morton ("I Hate A Man Like You") to more recent artists such as Dr. John ("Wild Honey") and Alan Price of The Animals ("Changes"). Produced by  Let Them Talk producer Joe Henry (Allen Toussaint, Bonnie Raitt, Billy Bragg),  Didn't It Rain was recorded at Ocean Way Studio in Los Angeles in January of this year.

On Aug 3rd, PBS will air "Live On The Queen Mary," an intimate live performance by Laurie with the incomparable Copper Bottom Band filmed -- as the title indicates -- aboard the historical Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. The special includes songs from both Didn't It Rain and Let Them Talk, along with the hilarious and charming repartee that only Laurie can deliver. It's a great night of viewing so check your PBS listings for details. Click here to catch a glimpse.

Gary Numan Announces New Album 'Splinter' (Songs From A Broken Mind) Released October 14th 2013

You guys remember Gary Numan and his big hit in 1979, "Cars"? I was working in a record store Upstate then when this song was played every ten minutes on AM radio.  In 1981 Gary and his mom and dad were visiting NYC and I got to hang out with them most of the day. I  freelanced  for a couple music mags back then and was happy to interview Gary. His parents were really nice, friendly people from what I remember and Gary seemed close to them.  This is a press release for his  new album to be released On October 14.

On October 14th Mortal Records presents 'Splinter' (Songs From A Broken Mind), the inspired new album by pioneer, chart-topper and influential artist Gary Numan.

'Splinter' features guitarist Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails, Guns N Roses), is produced by long-standing collaborator Ade Fenton, and will be followed by a full national headline tour in November.

The album finds Gary on fine dark electronic form; sounding both cutting-edge and classic Numan, it marks his best work since the late 70s, early 80s heyday.

'Splinter''s opening gambit 'I Am Dust' is a statement of intent, combining heavy grind with his archetypal anthemic pop skills. The unsettling whispered verses, crunchy guitars and Hans Zimmer-esque strings on 'Here In The Black' create a sense of menace and drama, whilst more orchestral work adorns the cinematic 'The Calling'.

Slower-burning ballads 'Lost', 'Where I Can Never Be' and 'My Last Day', highlight the album's broad palate, adding elements of subtlety and even beauty in contrast to the album's more aggressive moments.

Gary's knack for sexy, idiosyncratic dancefloor killers is strongly evident on the pounding, growling throb of 'Love Hurt Bleed', whilst 'Who Are You' carries equal clout as-body-music-Numan-style - infectious, but sounding unlike anything else you might hear blasting from a soundsystem.

Although Numan released a straight-to-the-fanbase album 'Dead Son Rising' in 2011, this is his first self-penned full album since 'Jagged' in 2006.

In recent years he's been quoted as an influence by everyone from Lady Gaga to Kanye West, Matthew Dear to Queens Of The Stone Age, The Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Prince and J Dilla, to Boyz Noise, Richie Hawtin and Battles (they released a single 'My Machines' on Warp Records with Numan in 2011).

But while Numan's unique style continues to connect with fans from the worlds of metal, hip hop, electronica, industrial and indie, he remains as focussed as ever in pursuing his own singular vision. 'Splinter' sounds unique, while also utilising new sounds and ideas.

Katy Perry Secretly Recorded Background Vocals for Britney's Smurfs Song

Pop star Katy Perry secretly recorded back-up vocals for Britney Spears' new smurfs song Ooh La La.

The Firework hitmaker, who reprises her role as Smurfette in animated movie sequel Smurfs 2, has revealed she is featured on the track her frequent collaborator Bonnie McKee wrote for Britney, which plays over the end credits of the new film.

Perry says, "Me and Bonnie secretly did some background vocals on that song. So maybe listen for our voices."

Katie and Britney posed for pictures together on the red carpet at the weekend premiere and the Toxic singer later revealed on Twitter.com it was their first time meeting - but it won't be their last.

Spears wrote, "So great to see you Smurfette @katyperry! Can't wait for our Vegas date."

Britney is planning a residency in Sin City and it seems Perry might be joining her onstage!

Nirvana: In Utero - 20th Anniversary Multi Format Reissue - September 23rd 2013

To say that Nirvana's third and ultimately final studio album In Utero was 1993's most polarizing record would be the understatement of a decade. The unadorned sonic rawness of Steve Albini's recording laid bare every primal nuance of the most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl would ever record. And with its 1991 predecessor Nevermind having sold some 30 million copies, singlehandedly returning honest rock 'n' roll to the top of the pop charts, In Utero was essentially the first record Nirvana would make with any expectations from the public. So from the opening quasi-shamble melodics of "Serve The Servants" through the bittersweet closing strains of "All Apologies," In Utero was the sound of the most incredible yet conflicted rock 'n' roll band of the era at the peak of its powers coming to terms with a generational spokes-band mantle they'd never seen coming-and ultimately surmounting these struggles to make the record they needed to make. As Rolling Stone's David Fricke said in his review at the time, "In Utero is a lot of things-brilliant, corrosive, enraged and thoughtful, most of them all at once. But more than anything, it's a triumph of the will."

Celine Dion, Elton John Solidify Vegas As Marquee Destination For Superstars

(Las Vegas)—The reigning queen and king of the Strip, Celine Dion and Elton John, reinvented Las Vegas entertainment as a marquee destination for superstars rather than a dumping ground for has-beens.

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, home of their respective productions, turned a decade old in March, and the venue remains the chief draw in Las Vegas, with a lineup that now includes hit-list veterans Rod Stewart and Shania Twain.

Prior to the arrival of the classic rock stud and the pop-country darling, a double dose of divadom in the blissfully flamboyant forms of Cher and Bette Midler shared Colosseum space as well, solidifying the venue's stature among acts with intense drawing power.

"We touched a nerve of what Vegas once was, but in a modern fashion," said Jason Gastwirth, senior vice president of marketing and entertainment at Caesars Entertainment Corp. "When the Colosseum rolled out, it changed the paradigm of headliners coming to Vegas at the height of their careers." When Dion opened the $95 million venue in March 2003 with her "A New Day" production, it was a gamble, so to speak. Even with her international fan base, would enough tourists pour into the 4,300-capacity venue several nights a week during her four-year residency to justify her reported $100 million paycheck? Considering that the show sold out 723 times and grossed more than $400 million, it turned out to be a good bet. Dion is back for a renewed residency through next year with her revamped "Celine" show, which features almost as many covers as originals and spotlights the Canadian songbird's love of music.

John, meanwhile, also kept the Caesars Entertainment coffers stuffed with revenue from his 243 shows between 2004 and 2009. That "Red Piano" spectacle, designed by David LaChapelle, was a garish overload of colorful inflatables that often swiped the focus from the singer's stellar pop gems. But John and ostentatious are frequently synonymous, so that hardly deterred fans from flocking.

For his re-imagined "Million Dollar Piano" showcase, which opened in September 2011 and will keep the sometime-Atlanta resident there on select dates through 2014, John, like Dion, is concentrating on the music. (John's recent bout with appendicitis won't affect his upcoming Colosseum shows, Caesars says.) Casual fans can gape at the elegant gold hounds wearing John Lennon-style shades that flank the stage as John belts out "Bennie & the Jets," "Rocket Man" and "Tiny Dancer." But serious Elton-philes will raise an eyebrow in happy surprise when he dovetails into his homage to New York City, "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters," and breaks out "Better Off Dead" backed only by mesmerizing percussionist Ray Cooper.

Dion's show also presents plenty of familiar dramatic balladry ("Where Does My Heart Beat Now," "Because You Loved Me," "Beauty and the Beast"). But far more interesting are her frequent forays into unexpected covers such as Janis Ian's "At Seventeen," Billy Joel's "Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel)" and an exhilarating tribute to James Bond themes.

"Both us and (concert promoter) AEG will choose an artist with a certain vision in mind, but ultimately it's the artist and creative director who refine that vision," Gastwirth said. "I've never seen a scenario where there hasn't been perfect alignment. These are some of the biggest names in the industry. Each of these shows has a distinctive nature to them; there is no formula." Those artistic visions range from a pair of horses joining Twain onstage to John's new toy, a $1 million piano (nicknamed "Blossom" in honor of jazz pianist Blossom Dearie), which literally lights up with scenes of him singing with KiKi Dee. And then there's Dion's show-closing "My Heart Will Go On," performed under a rising platform and cascading water in a nod to the song's "Titanic" roots. Most shows run a Vegas-friendly 90 to 120 minutes.

Big Brother 15 Week 5 Spoilers: MVP Nominee and POV Competition Results

Aaryn honored her deal with Helen this week and nominated Spencer and Howard for eviction. Helen’s alliance wants Howard gone and they have the numbers to make it happen, so Howard’s only hope is the Power of Veto.

SPOILERS:

America’s MVP nominee this week is Amanda. She got to play in the POV competition along with Aaryn, Howard and Spencer. The two randomly chosen players were Jessie and Candice.

Spencer won the veto and will take himself off the chopping block. Aaryn will be forced to name a replacement nominee. Her most likely choice is Candice because of Candice’s close relationship with Howard. The two girls have never liked each other, so that adds to the likelihood that Candice will find herself on the block next to her showmance partner.

Any James Blunt ("You're Beautiful") fans out there....New album, new tour. First single, from Moon Landing,  "Bonfire Heart" Out now.

Multiple Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter James Blunt will release his fourth studio album MOON LANDING in the U.S. on November 5th. The highly anticipated new album was produced by Tom Rothrock (Beck, Moby, Foo Fighters), who worked with James on his multi-platinum selling debut BACK TO BEDLAM. MOON LANDING also features production from Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, Martha Wainwright, Jason Mraz). “This is a much more personal album, and also quite back to basics,” commented Blunt. “It’s about me and Tom, the producer, finding where the story all started and where we are now. It’s an album about dreams, longing, first love.” About looking in the mirror and seeing the boy you were, the man you are – and learning to be comfortable with that, flaws and all. Box Office: "The Wolverine" Tops With $55 Million Debut; Plus "Despicable Me 2" Crosses $300 Million Mark

Sometimes even earning the No. 1 spot can be seen as a modest disappointment, or at least that’s what the new narrative around The Wolverine (CinemaScore: A-) would have you believe.

With no competition this weekend, The Wolverine pulled in about $55 million domestically in 3,924 locations — on target with studio estimates, but far below tracking projections, some of which went so far as to predict an $80 million weekend. With the majority of screens showing the Fox tentpole in 3-D, the movie averaged about $14,016 per screen on an estimated budget of $120 million, so this weekend’s performance is really nothing to scoff at. Interestingly, at $55 million, the film is right in line with 2011′s X-Men: First Class which made $55.1 million in its first three days at the box office in early June. But so far The Wolverine is holding steady as the second lowest opening of all of Fox’s six X-Men movies — that title goes to the first in the series which opened at $54.5 million. But X-Men was also released 13 years ago with no 3-D surcharges, so it’s not an entirely fair comparison.

The Wolverine opened internationally this weekend as well to grosses of $86.1 million, playing on 15,152 screens in 101 territories, bringing its worldwide total to about $141.1 million. Fox estimates that audiences were about 58 percet male, and 42 percent under the age of 25. Read more>>

An insider told the Daily Express: "The 50th anniversary special is a massive deal for fans around the world who were petrified the secrets would leak online the moment it aired in Britain."

Rock The Hoodie: An Appreciation By Rising Recording Artist Dayme

(New York)—When recording aritist DAYME first appeared on the music scene a little over a year ago, critics were enthused by her rocking-Joan Jett-directness as well as the theatricality of her performances. The fact that she wrote all her own material tipped off the music industry immediately to a new potential powerhouse.

Her live shows were proof positive that a new, vibrant artist had arrived. Proving the critics right, she has just written and released “Rock The Hoodie,” a passionate and personal musical observation; in light of the recent Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman trial and verdict.

Says Dayme, “I wrote the song (and shot the accompanying video) right before the verdict because it was close to my heart. The whole episode resonated so strongly within me, that the song almost wrote itself.”

Dayme posted the video online and in two days generated over 400K views. Currently the video is on You Tube’s Most Popular at #2.

The artist admits that several of the comments posted after viewing the video were negative and rather harsh. “I expected negative comments, but to comment further negatively on Trayvon, I found that very disheartening. I think the case revolves around the stand your ground law in Florida. Unity is where we need to be. The law failed him more than the jury is how I see it.”

Selena Gomez Cuts Interview Short Over Justin Bieber Question

Pop star Selena Gomez cut short an interview with a U.S. reporter after he asked about her relationship with troubled singer Justin Bieber.

The singer/actress was chatting to correspondent Dean Richards on America's WGN Entertainment network on Monday when he mentioned Bieber's recent headline-grabbing antics.

He said, "You're... probably as close a friend to Justin Bieber as they come. Is there something about him that we don't get or we don't understand? I mean, there is one story after another of... pretty outrageous behaviour that we're reading about."

Gomez, who was appearing on the show via videolink, refused to answer the question and looked off camera to an aide, before the screen suddenly went blank.

The brunette recently sparked fresh reports of a reconciliation with the Baby hitmaker after previously splitting last year.

Bieber has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent months, showing up hours late for several gigs and falling out with his neighbors in California, while he has also faced allegations he spat in a DJ's face and urinated in a restaurant's mop bucket.

Amanda Bynes Spoken To By Cops Again

Troubled actress Amanda Bynes had another brush with the law on Sunday when she was accused of trespassing at an old people's home in California.

The actress was spoken to by police officers after staff at the facility in Thousand Oaks dialled 911 when she turned up drunk outside the building.

According to editors at TMZ.com, staff called her a cab but eventually contacted cops when they saw the Hairspray star walking back towards the property.

It is not known if Bynes was merely advised by officers to leave the area or given a ticket for trespassing.

The incident is the latest in a string of woes for the actress - she is facing a charge of driving under the influence after allegedly crashing her car into a police vehicle last year, and a further accusation of driving on a suspended licence several months later. She is also accused of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and possessing marijuana after reportedly throwing a bong out of her apartment window during a police raid in May.

The Rocket Man hitmaker has been unveiled as the first-ever recipient of the Brits Icon Award, which will honor artists who have had a "lasting impact on the nation's culture".

The accolade stands alone from the prestigious U.K. prizegiving, which traditionally takes place in February, and Sir Elton will be handed the trophy at a show in London in September.

He says, "It's a tremendous honor and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way, and I'm really looking forward to participating in what promises to be a very special occasion."

The star cancelled a string of shows earlier this month after he was diagnosed with appendicitis, but hopes to be back onstage for events in September.

A&E Indie Films Partners with Mike Myers on His Directorial Debut SUPERMENSCH

Okay, now this peaks my interest.  Any  fan of 70s rock music and more notably, Alice Cooper knows the name Shep Gordon. For those of you who don't know, he  is the Coop's longtime  manager and good friend.  Hey, he and Alice were always cool to me whenever I needed  an interview or a quick quote  for a story or two.   I can't wait to see when this documentary  airs on A&E as it is also Myers directorial debut which makes it  even more interesting to me. I was lucky enough once  to ask Mike Myers two questions on the red carpet.  I hope this time I could get a full interview.  For more on Supermensch, see the official press release below.

Kate Middleton In Labor At St. Mary’s Hospital, Labor Is “Progressing Normally”

The wait for the royal baby is almost over! Kensington Palace confirmed Kate Middleton checked into St. Mary’s Hospital in London shortly before 6 o’clock this morning after her labor began naturally. Middleton and Prince William were reportedly accompanied to the hospital by a security team. They made their way to the Lindo Wing through the Cambridge entrance, which is the same entrance Prince Diana used when she arrived at St. Mary’s to give birth to Prince William in the Lindo Wing in 1982.

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted this morning to St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London in the early stages of labour," Kensington Palace said in a statement. "The Duchess traveled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."

The Lindo Wing staff said they are “exceptionally proud that this historic moment is happening here.”

Middleton’s labor is said to be “progressing normally.” Once she delivers the baby, a written declaration revealing the baby's gender, weight and time of birth will be posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace. That information will also be released electronically.

Madonna Remembers Late Friend David Collins

Pop superstar Madonna has expressed her grief following the death of her close friend, Irish interior designer David Collins.

The 58 year old, who designed interiors for many high end fashion boutiques and luxury department stores, passed away on Wednesday, just three weeks after he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer.

Madonna was left heartbroken by the news, and she posted a tribute on her Instagram page in memory of her pal.

She uploaded a picture of pink roses with the message, "In memory of David Collins. He was a great talent and A good and loyal friend for 17 years! god bless him and may he R.I. P."

Madonna was spotted flying into London's Heathrow Airport two days after Collins' death wearing a sober black outfit, and she is expected to be among the mourners at his funeral in Ireland this week.

The actor died last weekend (13Jul13) aged 31 after taking a lethal mix of heroin and alcohol.

The first episode of the fifth season of Glee, the show which catapulted him to international fame upon its debut in 2009, was set to hit screens on 19 September (13), but TV bosses have now decided to push it back until 26 September (13).

The musical's creator Ryan Murphy has not commented on how Monteith's death will affect the show.

No Word on 3rd 'X-Files' Film From Series Creator, Chris Carter

The truth is out there: Don't expect a third "X-Files" film.

While series creator Chris Carter was suitably impressed by a boisterous and enthusiastic Comic-Con International crowd clamoring for a third big-screen venture, he remained decidedly noncommittal on the idea.

"We can get to it later," Carter said Thursday, when asked of the possibility at a panel celebrating the Fox series' 20th anniversary. The panel also featured stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, along with writers and producers.

It was not the answer the crowd was seeking about the fate of FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. But those in the audience — including several who had camped out overnight to ensure good seats for the hour-long event — were in a forgiving mood, listening raptly as tales of the show were traded.

"The X-Files," a popular Fox television series, ran from 1993 to 2002 and spawned a pair of feature films.

But the future of the show's big-screen franchise remains as murky as the alien black oil that featured prominently in the popular Fox television series.

While Carter was cool to the proposition of a third "X-Files" film, Duchovny and Anderson were decidedly more amenable.

"I always thought whenever we can come back together, we would, as much as we can, so we will," Duchovny said.

Asked if the show should return to television, a la "24," Anderson replied "No!" then added, "but a film would be great."

Carter noted that the series — now a comic book from IDW Publishing dubbed Season — could find resonance in contemporary times.

"The suspicions and the conspiracy theories are rampant today, so I think that if 'The X-Files' were to come back now, you could do the show now," Carter said.

Pregnant Kate Middleton Headed To London

A heavily pregnant Kate Middleton is reportedly en route to London from her parents’ Bucklebury home with Prince William. It remains unclear if Middleton is in labor and is headed to St. Mary’s Hospital, or if she is headed to Kensington Palace to await the baby’s arrival there. The baby is due any day now.

A royal rep refused to confirm Middleton has left Bucklebury. "We wouldn't comment on the exact whereabouts of the Duke and Duchess – we wouldn't normally do so in their private time,” the rep said Friday.

Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge made a secret visit to St. Mary’s for a checkup on the baby’s progress. She will give birth at the facility’s Lindo Wing, where Princess Diana delivered Prince William and Prince Harry.

St. Mary’s has been prepared for Middleton’s arrival since July 1. Parking outside the Lindo Wing has been suspended for the entire month and dozens of ladders for photographers have already been stationed outside the building.

Strong Enough?: Cher Asks for Extra Body Armor in South Russia

(Press Release)—Cher, who recently performed at the opening of a new stadium for a football club in Russia’s restive south, asked for two extra bulletproof vests due to security concerns, a club official said in a Russian TV interview broadcast Thursday.

Local football club Anzhi Makhachkala’s board chairman Konstantin Remchukov said that the star's fears had been prompted by US news coverage of the Russian republic of Dagestan, where the authorities are fighting an Islamist-led insurgency.

“Cher was supposed to be coming for the Anzhi-Arena opening,” Remchukov told the Rossiya 2 TV network. “I know her and her lawyer personally. A few days before, I got a load of sms messages – ‘what’s going on there?’”

“CNN was showing news about a string of terror attacks in the region,” Remchukov explained.

“They asked ‘Could we have a couple of extra bulletproof vests? Are there metal detectors for the fans entering the stadium? Has this event been heavily promoted?’” Remchukov said, adding that they were worried that a well-attended event could become a prime target for terrorist attacks.

After reassuring them, Remchukov said he got a phone call from the club’s owner, fertilizer tycoon Suleiman Kerimov, asking him to accompany Cher from the airport for the June 1 event.

Anzhi Makhachkala won third place in the Russian league last season, but last year football’s governing body UEFA banned teams from playing in the North Caucasus, including in Dagestan, citing security concerns.

Cher, whose father’s family has roots in Armenia, south of the Caucasus mountain range, rose to fame in the 1960s as part of popular music duo Sonny and Cher, her official site says.

With over 40 years in show-business, the singer and actress has an avidly loyal fan base across the globe, and has also been dubbed a “gay icon” by US media.
