Michael Jackson Sought Home Advice From Donny Osmond

Michael Jackson used to call Donny Osmond and quiz him about his home life in an effort to learn the key to balancing his family and his career.

The Puppy Love hitmaker reveals the King of Pop would confide in him about his struggles with fame and would regularly ask for advice.

Osmond tells the New York Daily News, "I've been in show business for 50 years, and the secret is stability, and that is home. What my wife, Debbie Osmond, has created at home gives me a foundation so that I can go back out in this crazy world...

"Michael Jackson would call me once in a while and ask me, 'How do you live your home life?' Michael would always say, 'What's your home life like?' He never had that kind of stability.

"He tried. I knew Mike so well, and I would go over to his house. It was all about gold records, it was all about accolades.

"You walk into my home, you wouldn't find a gold record on the wall. You would find pictures of my kids, pictures of the grandkids. That is what home is all about. If you can keep your perspective there, your feet stay on the ground."

Osmond pays tribute to the late superstar nightly during his Las Vegas residency with his sister Marie.

Jackson died in 2009.

Prince William, Kate to Move into Kensigton Palace This Week

(London)—Prince William and wife Kate Middleton along with their new born son Prince George are set to move into their home at Kensington Palace this week after a 1.5 million pounds overhaul of the property.

But as workmen put the finishing touches to the renovations that lasted for two years, the couple are returning to London to start family life in their first "proper" home.

"They can't wait. They are so looking forward to getting the place how they want it and being settled," a friend was quoted as saying by the Daily Express.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to move into the four-storey 20-room apartment 1A, which once belonged to Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II's sister who died in 2002.

The palace apartment has five reception rooms, three main bedrooms, dressing rooms and bathrooms, a night and day nursery, staff bedrooms and ancillary rooms.

Jim Carrey’s New Children’s Book How Roland Rolls Enchants, Entertains … Inspires!

“Through the loving attention of parents, children gain self-worth. Through the innocence of children, parents rediscover the wonders of life.”
-- Jim Carrey

Award-winning actor/artist Jim Carrey is breaking new ground, for himself and his audience. The winner of two Golden Globe awards -- Best Actor for Man on the Moon and The Truman Show – he was also nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe for his critically acclaimed performance in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Carrey will self-publish his first children’s book, How Roland Rolls (Some Kind of Garden Media, 2013) on September 24th, along with a four-song EP. An enhanced e-book will be released on November 19th. They’re available wherever books and e-books are sold, as well as the How Roland Rolls website, http://www.howrolandrolls.com. The EP is also available through iTunes. The book is being enthusiastically embraced by all the major booksellers.

According to Carrey, “It’s a story about a wave named Roland who’s afraid that, one day, when he hits the beach, his life will be over. But when he gets deep, he’s struck by the notion that he’s not just a wave — he’s the whole big, wide ocean! It shows humanity’s interconnectedness through the metaphor of a wave in the ocean.”

There’s a personal story behind the book ….

“When I was a child,” Carrey shares, “my parents were smokers and I had a deep fear that they would pass … and then what would happen to me? I think that’s a common fear for children – the fear of loss. It’s an early existential crisis, if you will. But when we realize that beneath the surface of things – the activities of our lives -- we are all connected, all one energy, that fear of loss gets softened. At times, it disappears entirely. At least that’s been true for me.” How did Roland the Wave emerge as a character for Carrey? “Years ago,” he recalls, “when I first arrived in Los Angeles, I spent a lot of time on the beach in Malibu, watching the waves. I started to think of them as people, all moving in the same direction, and contemplated about where they go once they hit the beach and lose their form. Each wave travels all around the world. The first drop of water ever is still here now! That’s pretty profound stuff. I found that fascinating and comforting, and thought children could find that same comfort.”

As a parent, and now a grandparent, Carrey reflects on the time he spent reading to his daughter, Jane. “I believe the closest we get to heaven in this world is when we get completely involved in something we love. One of those moments is when we read to our children. It’s total freedom from self, from our worries and problems. We always feel terrific afterwards, and so do the kids. For them, it’s an experience of focused, enveloping love.”

Carrey believes that “everything we do that’s hurtful stems from a feeling of not being worthwhile, not feeling loved. Parents help their children feel worthwhile by being completely involved, spending moments together that are only about them. Through the loving attention of parents, children gain self-worth. Through the innocence of children, parents rediscover the wonders of life.”

Why write a story for children? “First,” Carrey notes, “I’ve always been drawn to work geared for children. “That’s what attracted me to the Grinch, Horton Hears a Who, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Story is important to all of us. It’s how we order life the way we’d like it to be. Stories stimulate faith and hope.

“Through stories we make our children feel secure, and that good conquers evil. All the characters in a story are parts of ourselves, of course, so through stories we gain self-knowledge. We are inspired to embody heroic archetypes. We learn how to not let worries ruin our lives -- how to make that brave move into the unknown, then find that we’re usually pleasantly surprised by the outcome.”

Just like Roland, Carrey had big dreams and goals as a child. At a very young age, he wrote poetry and even tried to get his poetry books published. “I learned pretty quickly that, in the publishing business, there was virtually no market for poetry written by an eight-year old. But, hey, I kept ‘rollin’!

“I’m just telling a story,” says Jim. “Kids don’t get credit for their deeper thoughts, beyond simple play … for their efforts to figure out life. I hope Roland will help guide them along their way.”

Carrey has appeared in 33 feature length films, is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood and known for his humanitarian efforts.

ADVANCE PRAISE FOR HOW ROLAND ROLLS

“Philosophers and scientists struggle to understand cosmic consciousness, but Jim Carrey explains it with elegant simplicity to the child in all of us. We are the ocean rolling along as Roland the Wave becoming raindrop, river, cloud, and becoming the life throb of ages dancing in us this moment.”

-- Deepak Chopra
Author, Teacher, Physician

"Jim Carrey does for children what he does for adults, using humor and light- heartedness to reveal deeper insights. Like all great fairy tales, 'How Roland Rolls' addresses ultimate truth in a fanciful package. Bravo."

-- Marianne Williamson
Author, Teacher

“How Roland Rolls” contains profound truths written in simple and moving prose for children. Jim Carrey speaks authentically and authoritatively about courage to challenge limitations and the freedom that ensues. Jim’s success as an artist and humanitarian is an eloquent testament of the truths he reveals in “How Roland Rolls.”

Roger Taylor: 'Freddie Mercury Would Love Queen Musical'

Queen star Roger Taylor has dismissed critics who accuse the makers of West End musical We Will Rock You of sullying the band's history, insisting front man Freddie Mercury would have adored the show.

Taylor and his band mate Brian May worked on the production with scriptwriter Ben Elton, but it was met with a slew of bad reviews after it opened in 2002.

However, it proved popular with theatre audiences, going on to become one of the West End's star attractions, and other versions of the musical have since been staged in countries all over the world.

Taylor is adamant Mercury would have loved the flamboyant show, and his only complaint would have been the size of the imposing statue of himself outside London's Dominion Theatre, which hosts the production.

Drummer Taylor tells Mojo magazine, "Oh, he would have loved it, but he'd have thought that the statue wasn't big enough - 'Not big enough darling!' People who think he'd be turning in his grave about We Will Rock You just don't get him."

Katy Perry Planning To Ditch Pop Music

Katy Perry is planning to ditch pop music and fill her next album with acoustic guitar music.

The I Kissed a Girl hitmaker is preparing to release her latest record, Prism, next month, but she is already looking to the future and is planning to adopt a totally different sound for the follow-up.

Perry, 28, insists she now wants to model herself on legendary singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell as she moves forward with her career.

She tells Billboard.com, "I'll probably turn into more of a Joni Mitchell. As I inch towards my 30's, I think my fourth record will be more of an acoustic guitar album. That's where I started when I was first discovered by Glen Ballard and got my first record deal. We'll see - I can't get ahead of myself. I'm still doing the work: I'm a good balance of left and right brain, and to be an artist with a long career, you've got to have both... I've got a few records under my belt, and I still feel like a brand-new artist. People still want that truth to cut through."

Prism is Perry's third album under her current recording moniker, but she released another under her real name Katy Hudson back in 2001.

He shared some experiences about his childhood on which this book is based on. He said his parents smoked a lot and he remembered one day that he locked himself in the bathroom for hours with their carton of cigarettes because he was afraid they were going to die. "Kids have real fears about life and what's going to happen to mom and dad," he said. "I wanted to give them something that reassures them that no one is going anywhere."

On The Cover: The Katy Perry Billboard Interview

Katy Perry  talked to Billboard about how her split from Russell Brand influenced some of the songs on her new album,  Prism, such as the not-yet-released tune "Ghost," in which she sings, "You sent a text, it's like the wind changed your mind," in reference to her ex-husband  informing her via text message that he was divorcing her.

And the song "By the Grace of God," Perry added, "is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'

"All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically," she says. "I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs."

For the record in case you didn't know Katy Perry  became the first woman, and second artist overall following Michael Jackson, in the 55-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have five songs from the same album at No. 1. Meanwhile, Perry does one up  better.  With the rapid ascent of "Roar" -- the instantly ubiquitous first single from the upcoming "PRISM," due Oct. 22 -- the pop superstar  has tied Rihanna for the most No. 1s on the Pop Songs tally with her ninth chart-topper. At this point, industry insiders suggest Prism will equal Teenage Dream in  multi-platinum super success.

Hey, this is pretty cool!  Did you see this?...

Pop superstar Cher waves and smiles at paparazzi as she escorted out of 'The Late Show with David Letterman' studio in New York to her awaiting car. However, photographers yell that they need a 'clean shot' - one of her posing without a minder - and positively beg her to return for one as she gets into her car.

Unusually, she winds down the window to see what the fuss is about, before asking her driver to open up her door again so she can give them the shot they need.

The two-day visit marks the centenary of the first entry of the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet into Sydney Harbour in 1913.

The fourth in line to Britain's throne will be the guest of honour at the International Fleet Review, which features more than 40 warships, 16 tall ships and 8,000 naval personnel from 19 countries.

According to 'The Times', the prince will join Tony Abbott, the country's new Prime Minister on the surveying ship HMAS Leeuwin to watch events on the water on October 5.

While the celebrations in Australia are spread across nine days, the prince is there for a couple of days during which he also plans to travel to Perth.

Harry visited Australia privately in 2003 during a gap year break, when he worked on a cattle station in Queensland and watched England win the rugby World Cup.

Parade Interview: Mindy Kaling on Life, Celebrity...and the Downside

This Sunday, Parade visits Mindy Kaling, the force behind TV’s The Mindy Project, at her Los Angeles home. Although the currently single 34-year-old is working overtime as the creator, head writer, and star of her show, she takes a break to open up to the magazine about her design philosophy (“I’m a ‘more is more’ person”), her personal and family life, the attention paid to her appearance, and the downside of being the boss. Below, some excerpts from the interview:

On the importance of knowing how to cook:

“You go to someone’s house for a home-cooked meal and you think, ‘Oh, I get it—the most attractive you can be, male or female, is if you cook.’ If I had a boyfriend who cooked for me, that’d be it. I would never stray.”

On Fox green-lighting her show’s pilot on the same day her mother died of pancreatic cancer:

“It was like a gift from God or my mom. I think she was giving me something so I didn’t have to get crushed under the weight of my grief.”

On standing out in the white male-dominated comedy world:

“There are little Indian girls out there who look up to me, and I never want to belittle the honor of being an inspiration to them. But while I’m talking about why I’m so different, white male show runners get to talk about their art.”

On the attention paid to her appearance:

“I always get asked, ‘Where do you get your confidence?’ I think people are well meaning, but it’s pretty insulting. Because what it means to me is, ‘You, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You’re not skinny, you’re not white, you’re a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you’re worth anything?’”

On having a TV show to produce and a staff to manage:

“I love being the boss, but it’s lonelier because you know that everyone at some point has huge complaints about you. And I like to be part of the gang, you know?”
