Godzilla Wrecks Competition at the Box Office

has stomped its way to the top of the North American box office chart with a monstrous $93.2 million haul in its opening weekend.

The monster movie remake, starring Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has destroyed the competition to score the second-largest debut of the year so far, just behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which opened with $95 million in April.

Godzilla's box office figures outside North America were just as impressive, earning $103 million elsewhere for a total global take of $196.2 million.

Meanwhile, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron's raunchy comedy Neighbors was a distant second in the North American chart with $26 million, while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came third with $17 million.

Jon Hamm's new baseball drama Million Dollar Arm entered at number four and Cameron Diaz's The Other Woman rounded out the top five at five.
